|
|
Hi
I saw on Dave's an ad for HAK working for an oil company. Is this by chance subcontractor for aramco. They said base pay + 65% for housing but only 30 days vacation. Anyone know anything about this job? |

yes it's for Saudi Aramco industrial training centres.
nomad linked to the same thread she posted in. I'm sure she'll be along shortly to either correct the link to a relevant one or convince us why it's entirely relevant |

Sicklyman - are "Saudi Aramco industrial training centres" the same body as Spsp, or are they distinct?

distinct entities who have Saudi Aramco apprentices in common as trainees.
ITCs are run by Saudi Aramco directly for the benefit of their own trainees and employees. Local training providers such as SPSP are separate autonomous companies that get paid to train Saudi Aramco apprentice prior to them joining the company. They also do all sorts of other training for other entities too like Sadara. |

that's too open ended a question to answer because it depends on what conditions you're used to.
In the ME context, and SA in particular, it's a good gig. But if you're used to teaching pre-schoolers with picture books and puppets at some eikaiwa, you'll be out of your depth about three minutes into your first class. |

I work as a direct hire at a university here in Saudi. Vacation is about 3 months summer and various mid week breaks in the year. I am not sure if it's worth leaving a cushy job. But the pay at HAK aramco gig is a lot, and is supposed to be doubled than my current pay. |

You have a choice to make.. I doubt the pay is double, though. I know someone who got this gig or similar and it was quite a bit more than what I earn but didn't include accommodation. You can find something cheap, but then you have to buy all the extras. Holidays are nothing like our university summer breaks. |

pay is easily more than double. Furnished housing in a flat is, what, 4000 a month? That won't stop it being double. |

The figures I know did put the gig at a high level in terms of pay but nowhere near double. |

money in the bank each month starts around the low 30K SAR. What does a starting uni gig get you in the bank? If it's more than, say, 16K, good for you.
How much have you got left when you've come back from your three month summer hols? |

University teachers get long summer holidays nut not all of them spend that time in the fleshpots of the Far East. When I was there I used to teach on the summer course for 4 weeks and I still had a long break. I never did understand the compulsion that some had to leave KSA at the first possible moment. |

When I took my final exit I hung on for 3-4 weeks trying to get my kid's papers in order for school back in Guatemala (a major hassle) and that time spent in Jubail without the wife gave me a great deal of empathy for those Scot mentions above. (Minus the fleshpots of Asia bit) |
