Has anyone heard of a company in KSA called Alasala? I was sent a job offer from them recently but after sending back the signed offer heard no more from them !

All went quiet after I asked whether the company would pay for the medical costs. Could be a scam or just a coincidence. Any info appreciated.

Employers in KSA are legally obliged to provide health insurance for their foreign employees.

It's always best to research the employer before accepting an offer. Anyway, if they're legit, they're likely processing the visa request at their end and will get back to you when that's done.

Which visa type are you expected to get?

You sure it's a "company"? It appears to be a "university" which just opened its doors in Dammam. Just GOOGLE them...there are several murky entries there for your viewing pleasure. I personally wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot long miswaak.

A university ? Accredited by whom ? Recognised by whom ? It does not feature on the list here -

Had a Skype interview with them last week. Medical cover is with BUPA.

Then you should be able to clear it up for us, right? You've actually spoken with them, I mean. What kind of organization is it? A "company", a university, something else? Thanks.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my first OP. There is a college called Alasala in the region which I checked and they seem legit. But the company I had the skype interview with is also called Alasala.

The guy from the agency who contacted me about the position seemed legit as did the Saudi guy who also took part in the interview. They asked all the normal questions and seemedpalusible.

Apparently, people are employed firstly on a business visa and later on an Iqama. i'm not asking about the health coverage while in the country but the initial health checks candidates have to have before they enter the country, e.g. Aids, Hep etc and whether the company pay for them upfront or the candidate is reimbursed later in their first month's pay. I'm not expecting anyone here to be able to give me that info and am just saying that when I asked the company about this, all went silent. If it was a case of them sorting out the visa they could just send a short email answering the question.

It does seem odd to me that firstly they contacted me about the job saying I had accepted an offer from them last year. I do not remember this happening but the name Alasala sounds very familiar. It could be because there is something dodgy about them or that maybe the same silence happened last year. They might be legit, on the other hand they might not, hence my asking about them. To the Op who said they were interviewed last week by them, did they tell you who paid for inital medical checks?

Well, the Arabic term "Al Asala" means "the authenticity" in English, so the name itself should provide the answer to your question. Similar to the "colleges of excellence" of last year that we heard so much about.

People need to be asking questions during their interviews. Anyway, if you're expected to show up on a business visa, there are no medical exams and tests for this visit visa type. (See the thread on visas in the sticky section of this forum.)

Alasala Education and Training Company is related to Alasala University in Dammam, which seems to be new and is likely a private, for-profit entity. Razz

I did ask about medical checks and was told it was the normal kind but would be contacted by the HR department with the details as the interviewers didn't have that info. Only later did it occur to me to ask about cost because I'm used to the idea of them being paid upfront by the school/college. After asking someone in the company three times about it and not receiving a reply, I became a bit suspicious due to all the scams happening. Apparently it's on a business visa which later becomes an Iqama at some point.

Yes, you're right. It's a new college which opened last year. I received an answer today that medical checks would take place in country.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Very Happy

Contractors and the Colleges of Excellence will usually pay the medical and visa fees upfront but not universities for the direct-hire gigs.

Did you ask about HOUSING? You didn't mention this at all, so I don't know if housing was discussed between you and your would be employer and you're satisfied with what you heard......OR.....if you don't know enough to have asked about it up front. To me, this is such a vital concern, second only to salary. Be sure to find out about this before you go.....if you go. Basically, is housing provided to you or do you get cash and have to find your own place.

The website indicates it may be a college for female students. So that implies female teaching staff. I would want to know about Housing. And medical cover. On a business visa you have no protection under the Labour Code.

What about ticketing ? Leave ? These are the kind of questions to resolve at interview or at the very least before you head off to Dammam.

Yes I asked about housing which they said would be provided, non-shared, single occupancy. I agree, housing is really important to know about before accepting anything. They said they had rented a number of apartments for teachers which were new and in good condition, a small amount would be taken out of the salary or alternatively that part of the salary could be paid and the teacher allowed to find their own place. It sounded reasonable. Also that transport to the college would be provided to and from the apartment.
