I'm in Canada (Ottawa specifically), and I applied together with my boyfriend who hasn't heard yet, so we're a bit anxious about it...also about the probability of getting placements together...really don't know what will happen Rolling Eyes

Well done on getting your JET place Sakhan2!

My boyfriend and I haven't heard back yet - wasn't the deadline supposed to be this week? Has anyone else in the UK heard back yet?

Also, if a couple both get accepted, does anyone know when they'd find out if they are placed in the same town/region? (Does the acceptance letter say whereabouts you'll be going?)

Hi Nena,

my boyfriend hasn't heard back yet either (and we're at the same address!) but then again our interview letters didn't come at the same time either... As I stated in an earlier post I'm concerned about the chances of us being placed together...not sure what we'll do if we are separated.

My acceptance letter does not state where I'll be placed, infact it is quite non committal, stating that i have been selected as a "short-list candidate" and every effort will be made to find me a contracting organization. Basically saying that there's still a slight possibility that they wont be able to find me a school to work in..I guess they're jsut covering their butts. Anyway, it has a bit of info about the pre-departure orientation etc. that sort of stuff.

Good Luck to you and your boyfriend! I hope you get it Smile

Cheers,
Saman

congrats on getting accepted.
i have a question though. what if you must quit a good job to take the jet job? should it be done after receiving this acceptance? or does that sound too risky?

hi, i don't know what the protocol is outside the UK, but as there's still nearly 4 months to go before the JET orientation, I wouldn't quit until you need to. I haven't heard back yet, but if i do get accepted, I don't plan on resigning until a month before I leave. I guess if you wanna go back to work there when you return, it might be worth warning them that you may be leaving.

well done on getting a place!

I agree with Nena, don't quit your job until closer to when you leave...unless you can afford to..but I'm not saying that because you may not be placed. The likelihood is extremely high that once you are selected as a short list candidate you will be placed in a contracting organization(almost 100%).

Also, for those of you still waiting to hear, don't worry too much. I spoke to the JET coordinator for Ottawa, and she said they are still receiving confirmations from Japan and that some letters went out just today. I'm assuming this is the case in all the Japanese embassies...

Hi, I'm from Melbourne and I received my letter from JET on Friday. Short-list candidates sounds a little confusing, hey? - but I would take it that we're basically going, it's just a matter of finding out where exactly.

I'm from the UK and I still haven't had any news from JET. I'm still going by the old maxim that so far no news is good news, at least I don't know for certain that I've been turned down yet. Smile I must admit though, it's nerveracking as hell!

thanks for the thoughts.
it's not me who has the good job though. it's my girlfriend.
and we just got our letters. she's in. i'm an alternate. doesn't sound to me like jet is worrying too much about putting us together. they're a business, i know, but we sure wanted to be together.

Well, for those of you in England still waiting to find out, we should hear in the next couple of days. I rang up the JET desk today and they said that they were posting the letters today. Confused

Still, it sounds like they're not making much of an effort to place partners together. Those people who've applied with their partners - are you still planning on accepting even if you're placed in different parts of Japan? Trouble is, I don't think you find out till you get to Tokyo for the orientation, and by that time it's a bit late to pull out!
