I like the way the Eastern Europeans do Britlish. Anytime they say anything that you can't understand, they say, "Oh, that's my British accent."

| The Essex ones done by two rat-ars** blondes stumbling out of a nightclub at 2 in the morning...one on each arm......absolute heaven to the ears and in the same league as Handel's water music !! |

Michael Caine. "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off"
James Robertson justice.
Peter Ustinov
Maggie Smith as Jean Brodie
Glaswegian.
Clement Freud
Pam Ayres.
Just for starters. There is a wealth of variety in the accents of these islands that many a book has already covered so this will do to get along with for the moment. |

Leslie Phillips/Terry Thomas "I say!" "Ding dong!"
The best by far though has to be Dick van Dyck's (sp) "Cor Bloimey Marrrry Porppins!"
Not really.
As for areas, anywhere that's not Liverpool. Scouse is just annoying, at least Brummie can also be amusing as well as annoying. |

I don't really have one but anything except welsh, brummie and scouse is bearable.
Actually I quite like an essex/kent accent on a girl as long as it's not too common. |

| I suppose I like the sound of Devonshire the best, although I don't often get to hear it, and old fashioned Edinburgh - a la Miss Jean Brodie - is a favourite. The only accent I truly loath is scouse. |

| God, I wish I could tell them all apart. I love the English accent. I could listen to it all day long and not care a bit about what you're talking about. Someone needs to make a website where you click on different regions and listen to the accents. An irish guy told me recently that the Irish despise the southern drawl of Americans. Says it puts them to sleep. |

Again, this covers a multitude of accents. 'Glaswegian' sounds nothing like, say, the accents of people from Edinburgh. Equally, Belfast and Dublin accents see a huge difference, for example. |
