Dear Dervish,
You sound desperate.

Are you currently on maternity leave having just given birth, or are you eagerly awaiting the arrival of a little Dervish?
If you have the sprog already, is there any way you two can go away for a holiday?
If sprog is still looming, take a few deep breaths, burn some incense/candles or get a gentle shoulder massage or something.
Turkey isn't that bad, if it were you wouldn't have chosen it as the place for mini-dervish.

Good luck with everything. (And yes, endless kebabs do get boring!)

Goodness.

I think FGT was just trying to be helpful. You needn't be so nasty and name-calling in return, esp. when the posting doesn't seem to bear any of the provocations you appear to have imagined.

FGT is quite helpful, kind, and understanding, with a very long history in Turkey. If FGT missed the humour in your post, you needn't belittle this fact. If you missed the attempt at compassion in FGT's post, please reread it and realise you are not under attack.

Dervish, when you say,
Quote:
FGT, Is your name missing the a and the o? ... Are you too DMB to catch on FGT?
it can be (mis)interpreted as name calling.

You might be interested to know that my sister-in-law is an English/Turkish Teacher at TED Kayseri. Ummmm hmmmm, got the 411 on you, Yaramaz. I like reading your posts. The way you sometimes act like you are so in control and aware of yourself, and then you occasionally have your emotional breakdowns on the cafe.

I enjoyed your original list of 20, btw, but I thought it was a bit much for you to attack me personally for defending FGT and then declare to everyone that you have the, um, 411 on me, as if I had some weird secret shameful side to hide and that you are the cunning sole holder of this insight. So what if you know someone at my ex school? I could probably tell you things about her. And she could tell me things about you. Gosh, aren't we all a bunch of gossippy hideous low lifes.

Dervish, sometimes we are happy and things are going well; sometimes they aren't. Many people on this forum were kind and helpful to me when I was going through a bad patch this winter. I'm allowed to admit to having a hard time in Turkey--- kayseri is not an easy city. It happens, as I'm sure you can understand. However, you can also be strong and self assured the rest of the time. It is not a contradiction. It is simply the ups and downs of life.

There seems to be two ends to the spectrum; people who focus heavily on the negative and then people who focus heavily on the positive. It seems that Dervish is more towards the former. Maybe this explains why you've had so many bad experiences to relate (i.e. your students, etc.). One can find the good or bad in any situation possible. If it makes you happy to find the bad go ahead. Although I don't understand it.

I do have to say though, that this type of bickering is not at all productive and not very interesting either. If you wanna make personal attacks, or have surprisingly negative reactions to a more or less supportive reply maybe you could use the PM button?

Well, as for me your negativity will simply be met with silence in the future. NOTE: it's interesting to me that you are not capable of acting with the civility you expect of your students...could this have anything to do with the problems you have with them?

"NEVER SAID TURKEY WAS THAT BAD, just pointing out some funny/cute things about it. Are you too DMB to catch on FGT?"

DMB, brother, I think you're getting insulted here.
