Hey - any of you lot know what its like in Barcelona in November/ December time? I'm thinking weather wise, is it really cold and nasty?(bearing in mind I'm a bad-weather-hardened Brit?) and also night-life wise - is it dead or does it keep on pumpin? Thinkin of visiting to do a CELTA round then but fear my sunny memories of the place may be met with something rather different!!

I'll say this - the weather in Nov/Dec in Barcelona will be better than the weather in the UK during that time.

And Barca nightlife never dies !!! What sort of question is that? Smile

cheers

I'm not in Barcelona, but I wish I was.....some people have all the luck Smile

I always recommend people to go to Madrid when they come to Spain to teach, but if money wasn't involved...Barca is by far the better place!

Yeah, I've heard the teaching market is better in Madrid. I adored Barca when I visited this summer - went to Sonar festival for a day which was amazing too! Is it easy to get between the two cities? Surely you can have a bit of both? And at least you're in the same country as Barca - that beats me at the moment!! Smile

A bit of both? You say that now....but it's a nice 8 hour train ride away Smile

If you ever win the lottery, Barca is the best place to be though Smile

8 hours? Im in BCN right now and theres an express that takes 3 or 4. I thought the regular train was 5. But it is an excellent city from what Ive seen. Its a little humid, but not nearly so bad as Seoul in the summer.

Ah yes I should have pointed out that there are express trains. Whenever I went to Barcelona I always took the night train...which for some reason always takes longer!

But it's still not a distance someone could reasonably travel on a weekly or even monthly basis....things in Madrid become so hectic Smile

I lived in Barcelona for a year and left about a year ago. It did get a bit cold sometimes on winter nights with cold winds coming down from the mountains but nothing compared to blighty. As for nightlife I was a big fan of Nitsa at the Apollo, an old theatre. It was a kind of techno house electro vibe and normally about 12 euros to get in. Check out their website, nitsa.com.

Barcelona nightlife is insane. Even the many places along the La Rambla are good, even if a bit touristy.

And you're right, it never gets too cold.

Though many people are surprised when they come to Madrid and see that it snows sometimes during the winter Smile

This is not the image most people have of Spain, but after all, it IS Europe and Madrid is the highest capital city in Europe (in elevation that is)

You can view current weather reports as well as weather reports from past dates on the Weather Underground web site at:

http://english.wunderground.com/

Type in Barcelona, Spain (there's another Barcelona in Venezuela) in the box at the top that reads, "Find the Weather for any City, State or ZIP Code, or Airport Code or Country." That will give you the current weather conditions and forecast. Underneath the current conditions is a box titled, "History and Almanac." In that box, you'll find: Detailed History. Just hit the date you're interested in then click on GO. The data is archived back to 1996.

Cheers for all the advice! Off to Barca on Monday to do my CELTA, dead excited.

Going to slip some sandals in my suitcase and hope I don't look too much like a freaky foreigner. ?!

Weather in the UK is horrid - grey and rainy and cold, so is hard to imagine anything better! I hope I don't bring any with me and ruin it for you guys!

And I think more people should talk about the weather on these pages!!

That's the problem with UK-centric textbooks... activities on weather, become interesting some countries:

"Today it is sunny and hot, yesterday it was sunny and hot, tomorrow it will be sunny and hot. In the north of the country it is sunny and hot, in the south of the country it is sunny and hot"
