OK friends,
if you were offered a new teaching job in Istanbul, or whichever Turkish city you are in, would you take it? Where would this job be and how much would it pay or what perks would it offer?
Personally, I love my job and would not leave it for anything else. How do you all feel? I just want to get an idea about the rest of our teaching community/ |

1. $1.750 dollars per month/with increase based on inflation
2. 20 hour work week/Institution with good resources/materials
3. Free apartment (individual, not shared), with the usual "stuff" (internet access, cable t.v., d.v.d.)
4. Free meals at the Kolej/language school/University
5. Only prep. and academic classes - no general
6. A Mudur that you can actually speak to....and connect with.
7. October to May school year
8. Return flight to country of origin every school year contract completed
9. City with a decent climate
10. Weekends free
The above conditions are possible if one looks around enough and if you market yourself. You can negotiate. |

C'mon, doesn't anyone want more? Ambition isn't a negative word you know. It could be professional development, cushier hours, more of the green stuff.... |

Ok, I'd like to drop my Friday evening class. It gets in the way of my social life. |

honestly i could deal with a new locall in which to live but i can't complain really. i get to room with all kinds of lovely people willing to open their home to me - not bad really.
other then that the school isn't too bad for a first job in turkey. not too much crap, my kids are pretty good and the job is pretty easy (at least so far anyways) maybe too many hours but weekends are off and some pretty good perks. although other teachers at my school would say different about their kids... |

Careful you may start something that cannot be stopped .
There are a lot of discontented souls out there ,sadly they haven't woken up to the fact yet . |

I love my job and I'm thrilled now that my hot water works after only 10 days! I'm just waiting for the heat to work (they should fix it today!!!) a big change from 104 degree weather this summer to below 60 at night.
I work with some great colleagues and my students are eager to learn. |

Job ok, pays ok could always use more money thou.
So if you know of a job offering above $ 2000 a month plus free housing and privet insurance I would leave my job today. Nothing less would do. So stop putting out feelers, if you've got the job spil it. |

I would like at least $2500 per month, 25 hrs/wk with no split shifts, two consecutive days off, a housing stipend, end-of-contract bonus, travel reimbursement, and future non-teaching opportunities. Izmir. |

You know NMB, I lived in İzmir for about 6 months about 5 or 6 years ago.
Nice town, clean, well maintained, really nice people, alot more open and liberal than İstanbul.
Then again its Damm hot I mean, real hot in summer. |

I could handle the heat in Izmir... I can't handle Istanbul's riff-raff. I lived there 1.5 years but would now rather just visit. Part of my difficulty stemmed from being a black female -- constant staring and harassment. I do find the people in Izmir to be much more modern and cultivated.
Any advice on finding jobs in Izmir with good salaries? University options? |
