Which albums/CDs do teachers here listen to in order to unwind after having a long day in the classroom? Some of my favourites include:
1) The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
2) Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
3) Radiohead - OK Computer
4) Dean Martin - Best Of.....
5) Miriam Makeba - Pate Pate |

I am such a bore. I listen to cassettes from everywhere including (shudder) Headway and design listening exercises for the students to answer questions about what they have heard. (What is his name? Why did he go outside? Why is his neighbor angry?) I play tapes of popular music trying to find songs that 1) are slow enough for students to understand, 2) have themes that will resonate with students, and 3) I can stand hearing more than once. I record BBC internet broadcasts for the students to try to understand. And on and on.
At weekends/on the weekend (British/American) I play classic rock'n'roll
(Stones, Heads, Hendrix) while/whilst mopping the GD floors and doing the GD laundry. No time during the week.
I envy you the luxury of the time to relax during workweek evenings. Maybe someday I will, too. Meanwhile, I do much more homework than the students ever will.
Best regards... |

I'm in China and listen to the following:
1. AC/DC "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
As this accurately reflects the way teachers are treated in China.
2. Alice Cooper "Hey Stoopid"
Applicable to students who think that 'New Zealand is in Europe' or that 'French is the first language in England'.
3. Joy Division "I Remember Nothing"
The day after a lesson, as you attempt to remind them of the past simple tense ..... for the tenth time.
4. Mansun "Comes As No Surprise"
No student has ever provided me with an inspiring answer or comment. All answers are similar, trite, insipid and unoriginal.
5. Harry Nilsson "Everybody's Talkin'"
Well, they are sort of whispering and muttering in the background as a fellow student speaks. They then miss the answer, look confused, but don't ask as don't want to lose face.
I could give you a top twenty, but that's enough.

Buena Vista Social Club, when I'm mourning Compay's loss
Omara Portuondo to feel good about Compay again
Los Jubilados for some Cuban pep
Luis Miguel, only 'cause the wife put it on
Molotov, to kick it up some
Whatever jazz tuns up on the hard drive, to bring it back down again
Latin, always |

Cd's? Haven't played one for over a year.
I have a mp3 playlist on my iBook that contains about ten hours of my favourite trance. I just leave it on 'shuffle' and press play. |

Shakira. Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Any comedy I can get my kazaa on. Anything I will never hear over here. Gangsta rap. Anything using slang from my home state. Helps me remember who I am. Broadway show tunes- because I am a dork! Anything with funk or soul in this "rhythmless nation", to quote a friend. A few Chinese songs that inspire my imagination- sometimes only until I learn what the words mean. Christmas music at the moment, in a vain attempt to let Chinese people know that there is more to it than Jingle Bells. Hopeless, I know! |

After a hard day's work? When I am completely worn out and just need some girlie pampering/nourishment I put on an Enigma CD. Then some incense, a cup of tea, and perhaps a nice bubble bath. Aaaaaah.
Otherwise it's Placebo, the Cure, the Smiths, The The, etc.
