We are having a party on the Tuesday holiday next week... (the 23rd). And we were hoping to have some turkey.

I checked with FBC but they can't deliver it in time... I also had someone call all the local "toriya-sans" and there was no luck there except 1 place who wanted to charge me 8000 yen for a med. sized bird...

Anyone know where I can buy one? Kanto region preferably, if I have to drive to get it.... Tokyo is fine. Or... mail order that can make it here by Monday evening.

How about Costco? Do they sell em?

Thanks guys!

JD

My aunt gets a turkey for christmas every year, but I don't know where she gets them from. If it is any help, she lives in Meguro-ku in Tokyo, so I assume she gets them from somewhere around there. Japanese don't seem to like turkey, so it is a very hard item to find. Good luck! Don't forget the cranberry sauce!

Where in Kanto do you live? I used to live in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki. There was a discount supermarket that specialized in bulk imports, especially things like steaks, bacon and even turkeys . For the life of me I can't remember the name.

Instead of trying to find a turkey, how about buying two good sized chickens? We did that one year for Christmas and it turned out great.

good Luck

Razz

That site is great though. I wonder if they can deliver fish tacos or In N Out burger.

Pretty good prices and selection of turkeys. Dunno if you are in time or not for Thanksgiving but give em a shot.

Got one!

Went to the Meat Guy website. Thanks Bearcat!!! (And thanks to everyone else too. I got some good tips about some other places to get hard-to-find items)...

I'm very happy. I got not only a CHEAP turkey (Brazilian) but a BIG black-forest ham too! Woohoo! Their prices are very reasonable and shipping is blazingly-fast! I called them by phone to confirm my order, and much to my pleasant surprise, I could have had it delivered by the next day. Since I don't need my bird till the 23rd, it's being delivered in the evening on the 22nd.

Payment is great! COD cash or c-card (or furikomi).

Check out their specials!!! 3350 for a 10lb bird!!! My friend who spent close to 5000 will be rather torqued when I tell her. Also, get this -- a large 20lb "American standard" turkey runs you about 7100 yen. Expensive, but CHEAP for Japan as far as I can see. The boys over at FBC want over 8000 for theirs.... Flying Pig is the cheapest for a 16lb bird, at about 5,000 yen.

Cheers everyone!

JD

ahahaha, good question. I didn't think about that. My only option was a small toaster oven - I don't think a turkey would fit in it. A slice of toast barely fit Confused

Heh... Last year, we fished out a really sweet gas oven from the gomi pile on non-burnable trash day... Smile Cleaned it out, checked it out thoroughly that it didn't leak gas or anything stupid, and we've been rockin' baked dishes since then.... I guess the people who owned it got one of the new electric ones (they're bigger and better anyway).... But this one works a treat -- just costs more to operate due to the natural gas consumption.

IF it doesn't fit.... Which is entirely possible, have you guys never heard of good ol' Southern deep fried turkey? It originated in the deep South, and I hear it's a nice way to prepare a bird. All you need is a big pot and a lot of oil. Smile

If everything works well, maybe my next project will be a good ol' fashioned, John Madden-style Thanksgiving.... TURDUCKEN!

Linky here (in case you've never heard of a turducken and you want to know what it is!)... Wink
