Okay boys, girls and others!
Brother Minhang wants a cult to call his own, and I believe that in the spirit of fairness and cooperation he should be given the chance to have his ambitions fulfilled. Who knows? With our dubious support he could become the biggest cult we've ever met. (Think about it. )
A few have tried, and most of them are now lying in a shallow grave in the smoking ruins of non-cyberspace, but this has not perturbed our Brother from stepping up to mark and declaring himself 'The One'.
This issue should not be taken lightly, however. 'The One' is often a self-appointed and self-important blowhard. Not our boy, though. He's shown an incredible capacity for restraint, sagacity, insightfulness, and most importantly... he says nice things about me so he can't be all bad!
Okay, so we're in an autocracy. That doesn't mean we can't operate in a democratically autocratic fashion.
Let's leave our blow torches at the digital door and see what he has to say.
That's right, folks! He stuck his hand up and I believe that takes a lot of stupidity... err... courage. So the least we can do is hear him out.
Minhang Oz is about to make his maiden speech. That's right, he's going to lose his maidenhead right here in Dave's ESL Cafe.
Come on, MO! It's time for you to apply for the position you so obviously covet... and probably deserve, if you know what I mean.
Once he's stated his position and outlined his strategies for leadership, we may then take our turn to ask the kind of sensitive and enlightened questions for which we are so famous. Want to be a cult leader? Okay, earn the right from the current crop of legends!
So take it away, Minhang Oz, while we stand by and sharpen our... pencils. |

With apologies to my adoring fans [ie, chinasyndrome] I must decline. My initial request was made with tongue firmly in cheek, as is often the case on this site. My psychoanalyst, Dr. P.Otus, has diagnosed me as exhibiting OCD and mania , a diagnosis based on one brief posting in which I took him to task, which underlines why he is considered outstanding in his field. I have promised him I'll cut back to one posting a day. This is the first step!
The idea of taking over this forum has its appeal. There are many wise heads whose experience I could have drawn on. ........Hubei Canuk as my Minister for the Eradication of Communism in China immediately springs to mind. However, other tasks beckon, such as my four year old who wants Daddy to play with him, and my distance education TESOL tutor who says my language is colorful and colloquial, but inappropriate to the task, and so on.
So I decline this offer, and retire to the back benches, where I can read the newspaper, fall asleep, and cry "hear hear" at the right [I hope] moment. A parting shot before this semi-retirement is to be found on the "What qualifications needed for uni teaching" thread. Would someone like to take this debate on board? |

Abdicate the throne in the face of obvious and imminent defeat.
We know for certain that you are not Japanese.
Are you related to the late great Queen Liliokolani head of the former Kingdom of Hawaii?
You would not have made a great cult leader.
Do you think NOYB, Dragon or MW would have cut and run in the face of obvious defeat? NOT A CHANCE!
But now we have wannabees like Potus, Chinasyndrome and Billy?
Oh well, please bring back the three muskateers! |

Ok J.D. at the risk of Dr. P. Otus diagnosing me with some sort of anal retentive disorder its "muskEteers".
Muskat is a wine
Musket is a weapon.
Unless of course this is done on purpose and you are implying the dearly departed were imbibers of the grape.
Do tell. |

For the second post on this sensative issue:
I do not want to insult the original 3 musketeers, Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale and Jimmy Carter.
But, now that you mention it, may be the fruit of the vine is what made NOYB, Dragon and MW as great as they were.
Bring back the three muskateers!! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
I learned so much from either their posts or the replies to their posts.
For instance: I learned that there are still concubines in China; that concubines can be taught to "fetch"; that concubines can be taught to "fetch" beer; and that there are no basic writing skills required to voice an opinion here.

Please be kind to yourself and pay me no nevermind.
I think MW was an intellectual who improved the quality of this forum.
I think Dragon was a stalker and NYOB was under 13.
This just goes to prove that no one should pay me no nevermind. |

Dear Potus
Consider it done. But you did call me a loony on a public forum, and you weren't going to get away with that! I'd also like to think that I can respond to any of your future postings, as that is how this forum works. I'll applaud and discuss your views when I can, and maybe criticise them when I can't. OK ?

No problem Mehung OX,
Respond to whatever suits your fancy. Gloves OFF? Fancy a bit o scrappin?
Besides diagnosing you with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with Paranoia I would also add the diagnosis of Grandiose Illusions. Being that the Mental Health care field is not up to par I suggest you think deeply about returning to whatever hole you came from and seek some proper medical help.
Love P.Otus oh Dr. P.Otus
Bye Mehung OX

I haven't been on the end of such invective since I confiscated a skateboard magazine from a Year 9 kid back home. Which hole? The one that other decent teachers live in. Check my posting on the 'What qualifications needed to teach in uni " thread. See if you find yourself described there. I can fill in some details for the readership if need be- let me know. I thought my last posting was reasonable. Discussion, including agreement and disagreement are the norm for a forum. If you don't like that, find one where everyone agrees with you. As for your amateur pop psychiatry, where did you find it, Readers Digest? You're way too sensitive. I doubt if anyone else on the forum would have taken exception to my last posting. Members can let me know on this. |

okay now its more like Jerry Springer...
Truly P.Otus PhD. I have to agree with Ming on wondering why you took offense at his last posting. And remember kids, "If you're gonna love, wear the glove.".
**One small note it's not Grandiose Illusions, its delusions of grandeur, the former is what David Copperfield attempts. Speaking of which when do you think the Beijing ogrement will call on him to rid the country of SARS in a CCTV-9 prime time special? |

Please do not post the Minhang Oz Cult !
When I posted a notice about MW's forum, it resulted in MW, China Dragon and NOYB losing access to this forum.
Please do not disturb the moderator !!!!!!!!! |

The cult is long gone, although badges and other paraphenalia are fetching [!] healthy prices among collectors.
As for second comings, MW is very much alive and well on this site. Dragon and NOYB made brief comebacks using different handles, but their style and subject matter were unchanged, so they really have left us. Meanwhile, after one public interchange with Bill Shagley on an educational matter, we decided to continue via PM, as no one else was getting involved: we didn't want to bore the membership and use up valuable memory.
So it goes.
