hey
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any schools in Puerto Escondido, Mexico that I could contact. I am very interested in teaching in this area, but I'm not sure if there is a need for english teachers there. thanks! |

There's the Universidad del Mar, I think a couple of posters here work there, but maybe not at the Escondido campus. Try doing a Google, I know they have a website.

The web site is www.umar.mx
The PE campus will likely be hiring a couple of new staff in the July timeframe. |

Any insights on what its like to work there, ls? And also, what its like to live there.. I think I might have done my share of living in small Oaxacan towns... |

I've been that way before. I used to spend all my days off there when I worked in Huatulco at Gala resort. Puerto is such a great place. So relaxing. There are a lot of gringos there as it is a hot spot for surfing. I love the atmosphere there, everyone is so laid back. I would love to be able to teach there at least for a few months. I realize that the money is probably not great there, but I don't even care! As long as I have enough to live off of I'm happy!
Thanks for your responses guys. If anyone else has any info on this area I'd love to hear it! |

PE is one of my favorite places in Mexico. It's really small, but still has enough services (read: fridge for cold beer) to keep me happy. I can't imagine the pay is good there, but then, expenses would be pretty low.
Not sure I'd be able to drag myself of the beach and into the classroom... |

Guy, I had talked to you awhile ago through emails about getting my certification at your school... Do you know if anyone ever gets placed in schools in the PE area from your school? |

We've never sent anyone there, nor have we built a relationship with schools there. It's so small that it's pretty much off our map.
We could always try to get you down there...or nearby? |

I'd love to go to that area! I think it's beautiful there! Even Puerto Angel as well. I'm hoping to start the course at your school on August 1st. I am trying to get another job on the side here so I can save more money and get down there faster! How many weeks is the course? |

hey, nuthin!
If you got a job with UMAR, they are part of the Oaxaca state universities that I used to work for, and I used to get about $10,000 a month and seguro and all sorts of excellent things. Downside was having to stay in school all day, which I think would be a major down if you were living at the beach, but not able to go because of work!
Hey Guy, can you get me something near Colima?? |

When you say all day, what do you mean? like 9 - 5 type of thing? thats not so bad. if you dont have classes all day why would you have to stay there all day though? What else did you get from them? 10,000 a month sounds like good pay for mexico, is it? |

That would be 8 AM to 1 PM, a three-hour break, and then 4 to 7 PM. You'd be expected to teach four hours per day, plus additional time for prep, marking, office hours, etc.
If you have more questions, PM me. |

Not somewhere near Colima, something near (or more precisely) in Colima. As in a job!
But seriously, I'm waiting to hear about something at the moment, but if that doesn't turn out the way I hope, can I PM you in say a week or so?
