Brothers and Sisters, four or five days ago I landed in Hong Kong thinking that teaching opportunities in China were mine for the picking, but now I've found that the schools and internet cafes are closed and I'm at a loss where I can go and find a job. I didn't have a firm job offer when I left the States thinking I could look around and pick and choose a nice school where I would enjoy teaching. But with the schools closed and without internet access, the job hunting process has become complicated. Right now, I'm at Qingdao University where the Language School director has graciously given me a couple of days to sort out my confused mess. If any of you have job leads or advice, please let me know. I can leave immediately for parts unkown. Thank you for your help. |

Gotta give you credit for "thinking outside the box" anyway. Convential wisdom is that a nation with a medical crisis (and the academic term winding down( might not be the place to arrive cold looking for a job.
Is this a lark??? If not good luck to you!!!! |

Sunaru,
You are a truly cruel example of humanity. But a good kick up the butt just might wake our troubled companion up.
Eca2, you can also try That's Beijing, (if you are not scared of bugs!) or That's Guangzhou (HUGE bugs down there, I'm told).
Or try Cityweekend mag in Beijing. There are web sites for all these mags, so just do a web search.
By the way Sunaru, there's something in your aura that smells familiar. You ain't reincarnated are ya? |

Did your mother have any children who lived? My advice- Go home, you are ill-equipped for life as yet.
You must have not read anything anyone has ever posted on here about coming to China, working in China or living in China. I'm sorry my friend but you, are a food animal. |
Well, that wraps up our seminar on Christian Charity ladies and gentlemen, the speaker said.
And drank a glass of newborns blood with gusto.
Let the kid live!
You needed help once. Perhaps, you will again.
As for the supplicant, it is cheap to hang on here. Dont forget to ask the people who are helping you now if they can put you in contact with those in need of teachers (I assume you have the skills.).
Also, there is looking for some individuals who want private counseling.
Contact one of the posted jobs on this service.
Then, there is
- placing your body on the open market
- volunteering for medical experiments
- learning dumpster diving
- giving blood
- ehgot any gold teeth?
- getting a ticket out on the first available
- thinking of this as a test of your resourcefulness
- thinking of this experience as further evidence of the value of planning ahead
- thinking of this experience as further evidence of how heartless your Brothers and Sisters obviously are
Regards, and God Speed, |

i am proud, comrades, even without our beloved comrades Master Wank, and his belovedly neimissis Master Drag, we are still one in this struggle against wealth, women, and wisdom. That being said, my good friend Hamish, I must correct the oversight you left for me to spot, so I can show my worthiness to other comrades
Then, there is

Such services should only be left for those well trained in such arts, namely, as common reconizedly, virtues of our Henan brethern, of which I partake
I am enlightened as even only this week I played for my students impersonators the melodicolic stains of "he's got you and me brother, in His hands" and the wondrous recitfultation of the classically Holly Molly," He ain't heavy, He's in China

PS The previous post has taught me the harsh penalty now imposed by our commie body burning impersinator moderators. i rashly mispelt Master Wang's monitor by spelling W A N K, not W A N G. Take heedious, this warning should not be tripeled with |

Hey people! Give the man a break! If you shun stupidity, do not read my posts.
Yes, there are plenty of jobs in China. Yes, it is bad that you came here without a job already lined up. But that is OK, you have two monthes left to look around.
You are in Qingdao now. I have never been there, but I have seen pictures and others have told me that this is a nice city. Hit up your new friend/landlord for a position there, or at another school. If you are being helped by anyone Chinese, they will get you a job. Guaranteed. Listen to them and do what they say. For the moment, you have time on your side. Do not take the first job that comes down the pike. Look, see, read and listen to others. Chinese do this. That is how they keep a chaos of a society going.
Look up here or www.chinatefl.com for positions in Shandong Province. You are also close to Beijing or a hard days ride to the Shanghai/Hangzhou area. If you come to my neck of China, e-mail me. I know what it is like to be broke, bewildered, and in the "big show" China.
In Qingdao, you might make 3000-4000 RMB plus three hots and a cot. 3000-4000 will give you a comfortable living where you can see the city, sightsee a bit, ride the cabs and public transport (aka the bus) and go to the foreigner bar. If you can hustle and make good friendships here (known as guanxi in Chinese) you can make as much as people in Taiwan. I make 13,000 RMB a month where I am at working about 25 hours per week. Qingdao is an excellent place to start. I periodically see jobs here on www.eslcafe.com (here) that advertise and beg for people. Chinatefl here in Hangzhou has a summer program. No problem. You are not alone or stranded.
China living has its ups and downs, read some other posts on the board. Chinese will stare at a foreigner and sometimes the people will make you do silly things that you do not understand. But here, I am comfortable, and people like and respect what I do here. i am an ambassador to this great land.
When I came to China in 2001, I had no money, and that's a fact. In Hangzhou, the SARS scare has been minimized (cough cough). I would not do Beijing or the Guangzhou at the moment. If money is not that paramount, go to the wild west, or Yunnan, Hainan or Guanxi Province. China is cool and very interesting. It is. Relax.
I love e-mail. E-mail me. I may be of some service.

Did relevancy ever deter anyone from posting?
The heck with Eca2, who needs this person?

Actually these days you are not wanted in many places especially you being from someplace else other than there. It's not that they're xenophobic, just that they don't like strangers. |

Why can't you find something in the City/Reghion where you are ?
Really you could have chosen a better time to go and look for a job in China ! Zero marks for forward planning ! |

ECA2!
if you haven't been turned into a clapping seal yet!
I have some more suggestions for you:
- get a job as a thermometer at a SARS checkpoint
- if you handle balls well, become a caddy at the local golf club
- sell tea
- someone has to clean the squats at the local |

Could be a demarcation dispute there. That's your job, for which you are singularly qualified. |
