Would have to agree with the above, in general.
People who come on vacation to Turkey, often fall in love with the place and the people, but they soon find the initial charm wears thin when working there (in Turkey).
Some people find their niche in Turkey, but many others find the working conditions (especially in the k-12's) too much to bear with, and return home - often before the end of their contracts.
Turks are a strange people - and will often charm the socks off you - initially - but when you get to know them better, you will often discover a darker side to their personas.
Even a Turkish person said to ghost once: "you know we (Turks) have two faces -first face (outward/good) and second face (inward/bad).
This last statement, coming from a Turk, was pretty honest, and merely confirms what one already thinks. |

I think Turkey is, overall, a good place to live.
Of course it's not perfect, but I've never been anywhere that was.
If you have a good job that you enjoy and pays you enough (it doesn't have to be a huge salary) then you can enjoy living in a beautiful country with interesting people and go to places in the country which are out of this world!
Even if you don't travel a lot, you can find huge enjoyment in the small/important things in life and maybe you can learn that a fantastic sunset is worth more than a fridge freezer, for example.
We (expats) are privileged to be living here. I don't think I'd choose to be a Turk but I do choose to live in Turkey. |

I think Turkey, despite its warts, is a good place to live. Actually, I should say istanbul, because I haven't lived outside of the city (though I have lived in a lot of areas of it). I have been here for 8 years, and in spite of some bumps here and there, I have been very happy. I have some great friends, both Turkish and foreign, and I look forward to the daily adventures. I think it is a matter of attitude. If you are a negative person, you are unlikely to enjoy living anywhere. And if you don't like Turkey, leave it and go moan about somewhere else. I am very glad that fate brought me here and I expect to stay. |

I was not going to say anything. I have spoken on this topic often and on a thread few lines down I went into detail. Yet I can't help myself. I'm trying to be nice. (31 can do it) I should be able to keep a level head.
THEN GHOST comes out calls Turks Two Faced. Who in Gods name are you. Do you work for some anti Turkish lobby. How can you write off a whole nation and it's people. My wife is Turk so are alot of our friends, does this mean we are being fooled by the ones we love. .
I don't know how long you have lived here or if your still here Ghost, I think that if you where to add up my time with Molly and dmb's (just to metion three ) you find that we have well over 25 years experiances between us.
Turkey and to be certin Istanbul is no Heaven. There are two faced people HERE, as there are every WHERE.
NO ONE HAS THE RİGHT TO ATTACK A WHOLE COUNTRY. WHO ARE YOU TO CALL THIS NATION TWO FACED. |

I don't blame you calsimsek, I'm with you 100%. Here's this guy with a bizarre affectation of referring to himself in the 3rd person who stayed here for a few months and didn't like it, then sits in his tower in Canada bad-mouthing an entire country, people, and culture that he knows very little about from first-hand experience. Plus he displays this bizarre obsession with questioning BCopeland's abilities in Arabic.
Not that I don't appreciate some of ghost's other posts. Even his insight to Turkey is not all bad, but what's the point of all these nasty comments? What does anyone, including ghost himself, gain from all this? |

Ok so Turkey wasn't for Ghost. at least he had the sense to leave Turkey. I think it is much worse the people who bad mouth Turkey all the time and continue to stay here That's what annoys me. If you don't like it leave. |

Is it possible to pick both categories since both those who don't leave and complain annoy me, and those that do but still complain annoy me?
Sorry - wrong poll.
Turkey is definitely more good than bad. |

ImanH, maybe you should start a new poll.'who annoys you the most? Those who stay and complain or those who go and complain.' |
