How the hell do you stay cool and not lose it in this heat . IT's burning out there
Anyone got any tips on how to stay cool?
I take a big block of ice and put it in front of the fan.
Anyway any good ideas will help.
NO WAY will this turn into an E.T thing. |

At the risk of becoming ill, open every window in the house and have a through draft. |

invite every English person you know to a barbecue. It's bound to start raining. |

I actually agree with Entrailicus. It's the humidity. How do you deal with that? |

I liked the one on inviting all the English people you know so it will start raining, that is great.
I don't have humidity down here in Esk., but it is getting like an oven! I am soon to take a vacation to Izmir for three weeks, so I think I will feel some humidity then. Although I find the humidity in Turkey to be mild, anyone been in the mid-west in america in the summer? SAUNA!!! |

Talk about saunas... Is very hot here. Great lakes area of Canada. I am on the third floor of a building that has banned A/C's, so it is drippy, sweaty hot sticky wet hot.
When I was in Istanbul, I bought a kid's inflatable pool and put it on our balcony. This was fine, until I realized eventually I would have to empty it, and how to do so without soaking any of our lower neighbour's laundry (another ill-thought out plan...). We ended up waiting until late one night and just tipped it over. I never used it again. And I think there was at least one or two alley cats that from that point on had a grudge against me.
I also saved up some money and spent a whole day at the Crown Plaza using their pool. I paid a pool fee that let me come and go all day. I even got to keep the towel (although I am not so sure that was part of the deal...). It was worth it. |

It may not be the hottest summer ever, but I'm with calsimsek-- it's hot as hell and I sweat like a pig.
It is the humidity that makes the difference though-- I was in Ankara last week and it was hotter there, but it was a nice dry heat so I hardly noticed. But maybe that's because I started my life as desert folk... |

I'm used to tropical weather and now have tropical blood. It's cold here. But cold for me is 22c.
Try keeping a wet sarong wrapped round your head. That will protect you from everything.

To beat the heat I hear drinking mineral water helps...
When I last lived in Istanbul I slept in a wet tshirt. It helped a lot. (Yes, I welcome your jokes.)
These days I highly recommend an...airconditioner! Got one in the ole bedroom. Far superior to wet tshirts. Vestel:600 YTL. Heat in winter, too! Who knew?!? Also, I think BIM has aircons on for 300YTL. MMMMMM cheap, potentially crappy, brand.... |
