I strongly suspect that the Human Resources Manager of the Teachers Backpacking franchise (Saudi Arabia branch) is responsible for this ad just listed in Dave's Job Vacancies.
"Travel around the world with TEFL International" is the catchcry - 4months teaching in a Thai high school, then 3-4 months in a language school in Vietnam followed by 2 months at a Summer camp in Austria - all of this for rather low wages and.....wait for it....an "administration fee" of $1890 (presumably in US dollars).
The other day, I saw an ad for a teacher of ESP for singing and dancing and surprisingly, I think it was in Saudi Arabia.
Maybe you should hold out on that retirement, John? This could be perfect!

Dear zakiah25,
" Maybe you should hold out on that retirement, John? This could be perfect! "
Obviously, you have never heard me " sing " nor seen me " dance ". The phrases " can't carry a tune " and " two left feet " come to mind. Besides, who said anything about " retirement "? I'm heading back to a teaching job in the USA ( and not as a dancing/singing instructor ). But I'm as surprised as you, if that ad was for Saudi Arabia - singing and dancing are not activities that one encounters very often here.
Regards,
John

Maybe you should forward this to scot47. This could be a great opportunity for him to do an in-depth undercover investigation of the elusive creature that arouses his ire and fascination--the naive backpacker. Being in the KSA, he should have the inside track on that singing and dancing gig.

Dear Irish,
Ah, somehow I can't see scot47 successfully passing himself off as a " singing/dancing teacher " in an " undercover capacity " ( and wouldn't it be hard to sing and dance under the covers, anyway; on second thought, don't answer that. ) - unless, of course, they're looking for a bonny Scottish reel and Calvinist hymnal instructor.
Regards,
John

Calvinist ? Me ?

I have had enough of this forum. Or more precisely I have had enough of my persona as scot47. This will be my last post (although I may re-appear in a new guise).

Adieu. Sbogom. Vaya con Dios.

No more of scot47's unique brand of warmth and humor? I must protest! It was bad enough when he went all positive on us (well, for a day or two anyway), but he came to his senses and returned to normal. (Don't say it, John.) Who knows what he's plotting for his next incarnation?

Aloha, scot47--we hardly knew ye.

Zakiah: a teacher of ESP? Wow! I'd certainly take lessons in mind-reading and remote viewing. It would be a great way to make sure you land a decent job.

"Our teachers love it here! Just read the minds of Mike Harris or Curtis Uckman to see how much they've enjoyed teaching at our school!"

Dear Irish,
I wouldn't worry too much about scot47 taking an exit only from these boards. He's in Saudi Arabia, after all; what else is he going to do for " fun "? He'll probably come back as scot48 - or, perhaps it was another of his (in)famous typos and he's going to come back not in a new guise, but as two new guys.
Regards,
John

I heard Scot would not consider a gig like that unless Haiti is included in the itinerary. Smile

The Grand Master of my lodge, scot47, has instructed me to confirm that he will not be posting any more. He finds the level of naivete too high. The battle against idiocy is too trying for him.

Backpackers and the naive may now visit this site with impunity.

Dear Albulbul,
When you see scot47 ( as you're shaving in the morning would be a good time ), please tell him that the " battle against idiocy " is not one he can desert ( we shoot deserters, you know ). So, he'd better get his keister back to the front lines before it's discovered he's AWOL.
Regards,
Captain John

Oh Great Captain John, USMC (ret)

Scot47 still reads the forum but he refuses to post. He insists that he wants a low profile and a new, non-interventionist image.

Yours

Dear Trooper scot47,
Well, we're an understanding army ( The Forces of Light ), unlike our eternal enemy ( The Forces of Darkness ), so scot47 can take a few days R&R. Battle fatigue, no doubt, shell-shock as it used to be called. But scot47 MUST return to his post after this period of compassionate leave;
no soldier can be permanently spared in the never-ending battle. So, it's back to the trenches again once he's recuperated.
Regards,
Capt. John

Dear scot47,
Glad to hear it - I'd have hated to get General Patton after you. But about
" Semper saudiensis "
Uh, not quite - not semper, just 30 more days.

John
