[source: the New York Post, which is a notorious gossip sheet]

"Michael Jackson has been spending time in the Middle East while recuperating from his molestation trial. Rumor has it that the King of Pop feels so at home in the region that he has gone so far as to purchase 'a 14-acre spread in Bahrain, adjacent to the palace of his "good pal" Sheik Abdullah bin Hamad al Khalifa.' What's the attraction for the reclusive rocker? Sources say, 'The Gloved One has enjoyed his monthlong Middle East vacation, in part because he can don local garb -- often a flowing white djellaba, complete with headdress -- and walk the streets virtually undetected.'"

Bahrain is actually a tolerant and civilised society. Where else in the Gulf do they still have an indigenous Jewish population ? (admittedly it is a small group !)

A source here in Jordan suggested that he should have gone to Oman.

I find this hard to believe.

Foreigners can only own land in certain restricted areas in Bahrain.

But I suppose if you have huge wasta anything is possible!

The gloved one was spotted recently in Salalah, Oman (excuse the Americanism, but there's probably a Salalah, Texas, Salalahburg Illinois, Salalahville Kentucky, etc, etc).

Here is a Michael Jackson joke which only really works if you say it out loud -

Q - Why does Michael Jackson like 28-year-olds?

A - Because there are twenty of them.

Well I was in Bahrain today and I did not see Jacko the Whacko !

From the crowds in Marks and Spencer in Seef Mall I would estimate that the entire population of the island plus half of Eastern province of KSA were out shopping !

So where is the man ?

Bahrain Daily News had a picture of him this weekend, shopping at the Seef Mall. Bizarrely he was wearing a woman's abaya and veil.

Is this guy crazy ? Don't bother to answer that !
