Posted: Wed Jun 11, 2003 5:40 am Post subject: History of a ROCK-STAR |
|
|
This post is just for laughs, kind of a thank you to all the people who have posted stuff I thought was funny.
This is not an attack on any particular person or group, thats why I have kept things vauge. It is a JOKE.
Rock-star is a term used here, my corner of Japan, for foriegner who won't go home because they get addicted to the celebraty lifestyle of living and teaching English overseas. This is thier history as posts to this forum.
Post 1: Research
I have no teaching qualifications or experience and only a liberal arts dregree. Where is the best place for me to have a great time and make lots of money?
I don't like children and would prefere to work in university. I was thinking of London or New York, does anyone have any advice?
Post 2: In country
I have been here almost 5 months. Things are not at all like I expected and nobody understands me even when I speak really slow I also don't like the food because it is not like home. I want to work for a better school, more money and less hours. What can I do?
Post 3: Hanging on
I hate everyone. I hate all the other foriegners, no reason really they'er just bad. I hate most of the locals too because they still treat me different.
I hate my school most of all. It is run like a business for the benefit of the owner. My boss doesn't understand I'm here for the the cultural experience and not as a career move. I want to leave now but my contract still has 2 months left on it. How can I quit now and not loose my bonus?
Post 4: Back home
I'm now back in the small rural town where I live. Strangly nobody seems that impressed when I tell them that I have been teaching abroad FOR A WHOLE YEAR! I thought they would have lots of questions but they all just say `Oh...yeah`.
I miss being the centre of attention when I walk down the street. Now I just don't feel special.
Worst, nobody has offered me a job in my choosen field, psychology, based on the vaulable experience I gained overseas. I was expecting many offers with big bucks. Should I go back?
Truth be told I see myself in some of the above. Wonder if you do too?
Thanks for reading.
I write serious replys to serious topics. This is not serious. |

Deat tjpnz2000:
As we say down on the Amish farmlands of Pennsylvania, "Zat woz wery, wery funny!"
It should be reposted as a 'sticky' on the newbie forum.

I do sort of understand what you are saying and I know you are being light hearted , but at the same time I must say, that I am here to "teach", people are paying me good money to do that, maybe it is different in Japan, but if I don't give a good performance every night my records won't sell.
Kind regards Carol |

|
|
I am the educator and I know just where I stand
Another conjugator and another backpack man
Today I am your champion, I may have won your minds,
But I know the game, you'll forget my name,
And I won't be here in another year
If I don't end class on time
I am the educator and I've had to pay my price
The things I did not know at first I learned by doing twice
But still they come to haunt me, still they want their say
So I've learned to talk with a piece of chalk,
I let 'em stare at my neck And I cash my check,
and then go my merry way
I am the educator, been all around the world
I've played all kinds of classrooms and laid all kinds of girls
I can't remember faces, I don't remember names
But what the hell, you know it's just as well
'Cause after a while and a thousand miles
It all becomes the same
I am the educator, I correct what you say wrong
I'd like to spend a year or two but I can't stay that long
I got to meet expenses, I got to stay in line
Got to pay off loans and roll my stones
And I'd love to stay but there's bills to pay
So I just don't have the time
I am the educator, I've come to teach my class
You've read my latest syllabus, you failed it on my test
It took me weeks to write it, they were the best weeks of my year
It was a beautiful class but it kicked my a$$
If you're gonna fail a test you gotta curve the rest
So I blew it off to go drink beer
I am the educator, the idol of my class
I dont make any money unless my students pass
You turn in all your papers, but they all look the same
Id call a meeting and fail you for cheating
But then admin will pass you all again
So we can play the same old game
I am the educator and I know just where I stand
Another conjugator and another backpack man
Today I am your champion, I may have won your minds,
But I know the game, you'll forget my name,
I won't be here in another year
If I don't end class on time

Dear xnihil,
Not even an SUV, mini-van or Suburban? Well, even so, keep on trucking.

Actually, in a former career I worked with Elisha Cook Jr. (Elmer in the Maltese Falcon. He was also in The Big Sleep and Shane)
(spelling correction)

P.S. Cook was good, too - a guy you loved to hate ( in the flics, anyway ). |
