1. Ramazan takes an hour of my travel time home in the evening, so I get to play on my newly tuned piano for longer every evening.

2. My bayram holiday is all paid for! Amstdam! And Maximo Park, The Dirty Three and the Zutons are all playing when I'm there.

3. Cat Power is playing in Babylon next month.

Not trying to be antagonistic, but sadly, I'm not very cheerful today. Here's 3 reasons why....

1) It's dark and cold outside. My office is the coldest one that never gets any sun. Everyone's giving me bad looks for drinking coffee here, alone, in my cold, dark office. Allah would not be impressed.

2) We have a long dumb boring staff meeting this afternoon so I can't leave early. Then they scheduled another boring meeting between classes and the boring staff meeting. The new meeting is because we have to give oral exams, which means sitting for an hour pretending to be interested in students stammering through boring topics, like their lives or the advantages and disadvantages of some crap.

3) I have a tummy ache.

At least my little guy (see below) seems cheerful....

4) Also I keep doing stupid double posts because the Internet is sooooooo slooooooowwww....

Justme: Quitcher bellyache-in'
Justme: (sulkily) No. Call me the Waaambulance, stat!

Here's what's good.

1) I have hands. We need hands. The Sex Pistols told me so.
2) I have a nice new blue shirt. It's very soft and a little too big in just the right way, so I feel snuggly.
3) The Who is my earworm today.

That sucks.
I precribe some rock'n'roll. That's what I used to do a shitty teaching days. Listen to Hendrix, The Who, The Beach Boys, Sleater-Kinney etc.

That was my plan. Leave early, go to the bank, and then a solid 6 hours of rock n roll medication. But the meeting has ruined my plan. I may have to change it to Leave late, screw the bank, 2 hours of depressing 80's Brit suicide pop....

One of my favorite students just stopped by. He's a pudgy and happy guy. That was nice....

Exactly that. Something to arouse those teenage feelings of unworthiness and insecurity. A big Black Celebration, as it were.

Or maybe Quadrophrenia. Depressing, unworthy, and insecure, but more rocky rolly. Or maybe (shame!) Marilyn Manson.

I'm really glad we didn't have Marilyn Manson when I was a troubled teen... Makes Suicidal Tendencies look like Spitney Beers...

That's odd, I just realized when you said that I don't have any NIN anymore, except for a few scattered songs on soundtracks. One of those things that never made the conversion from cassette to CD...

The first meeting is finished and the end of the day is in sight. I might upgrade to depressing classical adagios or something...

Here's what I went for on Friday, on the 5 disc changer set to random. It was a weird afternoon/evening:

1) Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers (don't mock me)
2) Prince
3) Corinna Repp (soooo maudlin. A Portland singer with a Nico-like quality but she can carry a tune. Sort of a cross between Nico & Meg Timmons)
4) Pink Floyd Relics (bootleg irreversibly skippy. Note to self-- get a new one)
5) Californication

I feel better anyway. Not exactly cheerful, but it is Monday, after all...

Hmmm. I never heard of her. I rarely like female singers so I was surprised I like this one. I'm also surprised she's known in the world outside of Portland!

I'll give Joanna Newson a try. Know of anywhere online I might be able to sneak a listen? That's how I found Corinna Rep, quite by accident.

http://music.download.com

at this website. I don't know if I got it here on Dave's or somewhere else.

It's another Friday. I'll try again.

1) My office is very clean. Apparently with tea drinking and smoking eliminated, the cleaner is bored. He's been through 3 times this week.

2) I convinced the guy to make the stupid meeting at 12:15 instead of 2:30 so I can leave early Smile

3) I have my health.
