Nascent daily posting tendency nipped in the bud by a new college term, but now I have a holiday from the slavic hordes currently filling the UK ESOL classroom. And here's a question. Supposing you could have any old thing you can't get in Turkey brought over by my good self, what would it be ? As a UK resident I would like to be brought from Turkey a hot lahmacun and a sahlep -though it may have the look of spunk in a cup, it's very nice, especially appropriate to today's standart english autumn weather. And possibly an Ebru Gundes doll would be fun, provided it didn't sing. Any thoughts ?

Mince pies, Chrissy pudding etc. we have already started stocking up.I'm not spending 5 days in the kitchen this year again.

Poundland do a very nice mince pie but it probably wouldn't survive the carousel. dmb I can bring you a jar of mincemeat if you like.

We are already committed to one pudding for my wife's mother, who took a shine to the leaden lumpiness of the last one we took over there.
Or maybe it was the 5 different kinds of alcohol it had in it ...

All the Turkish friends who we have had over the years for Xmas have loved the trad chrissy things-even the little pork susages wrapped in bacon. Last year I couldn't get my flatmate away from the brandy butter.

I'm at Weston College, which positively towers over the none-too-attractive six-weeks-a-year giro touristville Weston super Mare and its population of rehabbing druggies, nursing homes and teenaged mums on the make. The view from the 6th floor of the college can be very good. The conditions for the majority of ESOL & other lecturers, on the other hand, are wall-to-wall shite. The very occasional college contract crops up with the approximate regularity of Halley's Comet; get the job or you're stuck with agency work. No holiday pay, no sick pay, no insurance, etc etc Mark Loyd. Most of the students are Eastern European migrants. Weston is boring as hell. But I get to ride my bike to work every day without fear of being squashed by a dolmus. And I quite like a quiet life, if truth be told.
Which FE college are you at ?
