i read somewhere on the net that if u travel from sumatra (by boat or plane) to certain points of entry in malyasia u don't have to pay the airport fiscal fee which is 1juta normally when u travel out of indonesia...
is there anyone out there who can give me first hand info about this? To be more specific I was wondering if KL and Port Dickson around Melaka fall into this tax exemption category.
thanx |

Sorry Derya
This only applies to Indonesian citizens. We tried all means possible when this was first introduced - walking through Immigration without first paying the tax etc., - and just got sent back out to the reception hall to pay the fiscal fee before they would let us through. ('WE' being expats who work in Medan).
There has been talk for the past 18 months at least about abolishing the fiscal fee completely, but nothing has happened yet! So sorry, but we will just have to keep paying up until the law changes once again, if it ever does! |

3 yrs ago I went by boat from Batam to Singapore, and paid Rp.500.000. That's the limit of my knowledge on the matter, I'm afraid. |

You shouldnt need to worry about the fiscal it should be paid by the school as it is part of the visa fee |

The visa fee only covers the fiskal for departure at end of contract. If you leave the country for a holiday mid-term then you have to pay it yourself each time you depart. |

If those nasty men with long finger nails at the Indo fiscal tax desk are getting you down then here's how to get even.
Don't bother buying the 1 mill fiscal tax from the desk prior to the immigration desks - just march on up and hand over your passport. When the official raises their eyebrow and asks you if you've shelled out for the fiscal payment say you don't have to. They will look at your school's stamp in your passport and will ask if you're a teacher or a student - say you're a student, they can't tell any different and as a student in Indo you are exempt from the fiscal charges.
Works every time. Do it with a smile and tell 'em you're looking forward to coming home to their beautiful country.
If, of course you encounter a real nazi inquisitor you could just resort to good old fashioned bribary. 300,000 rupes is the going rate, better than shelling out a mill though.

Because your visa says your sponsor is a yayasan and a school the clowns at immo don't have a clue who's a working stiff or a studying one. It's a beauty loophole just claim you're studying Indo language and practice some of your lingo on them in the process. They really have no way to check - best to have that 300,000 in the back pocket should some 'negotiating' have to happen.
Enjoy.

Best of luck - just try to hide your smug grin as you pull it off. It's a great way to leave the country with the last laugh on those conniving officials...
