I have pointed out before that Bahrain is an oasis of cultural enlightenment. Verdi's Requiem is being performed here in mid-May.

Can we expect busloads of the Great Unwashed from Saudi to show up ?
Well I for one shall be there - in my tuxedo !

Seems to me that there is total lack of interest in all this high culture. People posting here are not into difficult things like Verdi and Bach. They want something more vulgar and populist.

And don't expect them to know about Literature. They are, after all, only English teachers !

Verdi didn't write it for his own death. It's the Manzoni Requiem, by Verdi. Wink

My comment on the 'Requiem for Manzoni' by Giuseppe Verdi ? Similar to the comment of the Emperor to Wolfie, 'Too many notes, Mr Mozart !'

Alas, Mr Verdi is no longer alive to hear my criticism.

The work is one of the world's masterpieces, Mr Scot. I would gladly travel thousands of miles to hear an accomplished performance.

The concert was well-attended. No shortage of culture vultures in Bahrain.
I stayed until the end but think I prefer Wagner. Will we have the 'Ring Cycle' in Bahrain ?

Next event on the horizon is the International Music Festival just after Ramadan. Watch this space. Closely.

Watch out for the International Music Festival. Rumour is that it is shortly after the Eid Holiday.

Watch this space - and don't tell the bearded ones !

My guess is the end of October, beginning of November.
