| My school pays 65 pesos an hour for teaching our TEFL course. Is that as rubbish as it seems? Or do other schools with TEFL courses in Mexico pay similarly? |

| The answer greatly depends on where. |

| Is it a TEFL or ESL/EFL? Are you teaching ESL teachers or ESL students? |

I think it depends on how you calculate the salary. For example, I get paid about 10,000 pesos per month after deductions, not counting bonuses. Sounds pretty decent, right? But I have to punch a time clock and spend 8 hours per day on campus. If you figure there are 22 work days per month on average, that works out to about 55 pesos per hour.
If you're being paid for, say 25 hours per week, but don't have to spend all day at the school, you may not make a lot of money but at least you have a social life! |

If you mean teaching EFL to English language learners, then from what I've seen, 65 pesos per hour is about average in Guadalajara.
If you mean teaching as a TEFL trainer to teachers, then 65 pesos per hour is low. You should either be on a salary or earning minimum 150 per hour. |

| I was offered a job doing teacher training and consultation by the supervisor of the city government's EFL program. She offered me the same pay her teachers receive, 40 pesos per hour before taxes, and wanted to pay me via one of the teachers in her program, adding my pay to his recibos (which I realize isn't uncommon procedure) instead of adding the job to my work visa. I declined her "generous" offer. |

| I've done a bit of teacher training for a textbook company. I visited schools that were adopting their textbook and gave their teachers a training session on how to make the most of textbook X. I got 425 pesos and hour plus travel expenses. Unfortunately this was like a twice a year gig! |

Mmm, interesting. Yes, I meant teacher training. Guy, can TEFL trainers really earn 150 an hour in DF? Or more??? What's the maximum?
I knew DF had to have at least one redeeming feature. |

Actually, I just tossed that number out from a guess on what I've heard worldwide. Besides DELTA course trainers, I may very well be the sole TEFL trainer in Mexico City. I make a salary, so what I earn hourly ranges quite a bit depending on how much work I'm given.
Since you are in GDL, why not drop by ITTO and the Vancouver Language Center and ask what trainers there earn? I don't know what it is, but I will bet it's in the 8,000 to 12,000 range per month. If it's higher than that, drop my name will ya, and let em know I'm willing to relocate. |

Simply that 65 pesos an hour to train tefl teachers is a rubbish wage. |

So what kind of wages do you get/would you expect for teaching TEFL? |
