Edddie,
Mate. It's probably better to ask about *teaching related* topics if you want a swift reply. After all, this is a teacher forum. Why would we know anything about what to do if you have a full passport?

You cannot use a passport which is full.

I don't know if you will be detained or not, you simply can't travel on it.

I found this article online though and it would appear that if South Africa can do this then China certainly wouldn't see any reason why not?

Things don't look very good though:

Can I have visa pages added to my passport?

Effective January 04, 2005, we are no longer permitted to add visa pages to passports which have been filled with visa stamps. When your current passport has run out of visa pages, you must apply for a new passport.

Please submit an application for a new passport to be issued to you. The processing time is 15 working days. If you are required to travel within the 15 working day processing time, please request the "Seen and Return" service which enables our staff to assess your application and return the current passport for you to use within the processing period.

I don't know the legal status of this but perhaps the only way out would be to stay over in Shenzhen while you are waiting for the consulate to process your visa.

ASk for an emergency passport.

They are usually only 2 pages. You will need to take your old passport when you travel too.

Next, consider applying for the automated entry system. It doesn't require a passport stamp, it uses yoru id card. You will need to look into this furtehr to see if you are applicable.

ok, yah i belive the new passport is machine-readable, actually since i got my passport in oct-2005 i have a machine readable one, its just bent up the reader probably dosnt read it, they just punch in the number and it works ..

my school in SZ knows the situation, so i think they really love me, they are waiting for me to return which will be by the end of this mth. when the 15 work days are up, after that the other pain in the but, is getting the F-Visa reprinted on my passport, is that going to be a free service from China Travel Service? i hope i can get it back through them, my f visa is still valid until June 23 / 2006..

Hey there...
Not to give you a hard time, but why would you wait until your passport was full to think about getting a new one? If you commute often and get a lot of stamps in your passport I would think you would be aware that your passport would get filled up quickly.
I'm an American and travel a lot. I was able to get 24 pages added to my original 24 page passport for free from the American Consulate in Japan where I live/teach. I didn't wait until it was full either. American passports are valid for 10 years so I will probably run out of pages before my passport expires...even with the new pages added.
Anyway, good luck with your dilemma.

I didnt really have alot of income to expend towards the passport, i thought i could hold out, seems like it wasnt possible, i had to get extra funds just to pay for the bloody thing, and to add pages to it, not possible for canada passports.

Traveling to and from China can be costly, depending upon the type of visa.

BTW what are the rates of pay like over the border?

to begin with im working in shenzhen because hong kong is uni-degree city, its okay though, shenzhen work is quite easy - kindergarten.

the rates , i mean taking the mtr in shenzhen ur laughing, its sooooooooo cheap, their planning to link up MTR from wanchai expo centre thing to shenzhen's, which is a basic copycat of hongkong.

everything is cheap down there, its the best place to shop, you can bargain your ass off from what ive heard, go to 7-11 take anything in hong kong and go over the border the price is cut in half, like papaya milk kowloon dairy, tasty drink ,its 6 hkd , and 3 rmb. and Wal-mart down in SZ is awesome too, I bought Jet li- bootlegged - fearless, then bought it at full retail price for 14.50 rmb. travelling to sz everyday is about 50 hkd i think. 50 hkd in shenzhen is travel costs for about 1 week , its only 5 yuen to travel the entire line on the sz metro

- oh if people are looking for work in hong kong,

abcpathways.com
e-quest are 2 employers that usually generally hire, if your fortunate enough to work for them part time and they do indeed sponsor you, then you can make 300/hr - abc pathways
and 250/hr with e-quest

if one gets fulltime with abcpathays you can make inbetween 13-to start
up to 18, then beyond 20,000 hkd, ive worked with both of them, but in shenzhen i was offered about 9,600 rmb at a kindergarten, even the shenzhen university doesnt pay this high lol Evil or Very Mad

I would like to do some corporate over the boarder. Just so I can have a change of scenery.

At present I am waiting to see if my proposals for a local institution for a 4 year English Through Train will be approved. If so, then I will be 150% busy for year one at least.

Other than that I wait for new corporate gigs and have just declined to renew at a private institution that runs Work Place English and a number of overseas degree bearing awards. I feel like sharing / ranting so I shall.

My original contract was screwed over, it turned out they had neither syllabus nor materials. Well they actual do have materials but they are unusable. Hence 5 hours prep for each 2 hour lecture. I was asked to be available for two new programs and declined other work only to follow up and find out they had been postponed. So now I am a tad pissed.

I was repeatedly promised that the students would be supplied a text book. Gee wizz they have paid 3 times the market rate for equivalent programs, and at some point they will be given a free text book. Next that is delayed. Now I realize you think that that might not be such a large issue but, The students turn up for classes in random order. Students are enrolled into the program at any time. Yes, you heard me correctly, only in the last 2 months has any form of placement test taken place.

I suspect some people are saying you can handle that in only 5 hours prep. Well I have been through the cycle once so 5 hours re-working of my original materials. I wont bore everyone but, ice breaker and social communication skills, thematic vocabulary work, oral work, 50% of 1 of the 7 TOEIC sections, followed by some basic phrasal lexology, a thematic grammer / or business English unit, more handmade lecture notes to fit the dam lesson title and then wind down.

On Tuesday I went in early to prepare and saw the new Academic Director sitting down with two new teachers preparing them to take over the work from the other less able teachers. Fine, I didnt interrupt as they were having a meeting. The point is that the AD snubbed me, didnt say hello. Strike 1, When I went to an office to say hi, I was told by a secretary I needed an appointment and he would come down to see me at break. Ok, he came down, I just wanted to confirm the already repeatedly confirmed new cycle from the 24th of March, Oh well I will have to speak to my superiors etc.

I am sorry, I have no quarms about him bringing over his existing staff, but a snub followed by a line of potential BS after I have carried that institutions ass and tried to provide some legitimacy to their over priced and inadequate programs is unacceptable.

Call me bigheaded, conceited what ever you like, I ask for nothing more than common professional courteously, I put in the unpaid hours of preparation for the students benefit as such I dont wish to be associated with an organization which is ethically in breech, not to mention various EMB and UACCHK guidelines.

Shenzhen eh? 30 rmb massage sounds good!
