Has any new applicant been offered a job with Westgate for the 2003 Fall term? If so, which city? |

No, I'm still waiting for the word, too. Have you paid for your airline ticket yet? Does anyone else know where they're going to be? |

I've bought the flight ticket but still haven't found out where I'm living. I got an email from them today saying they'll be sending me my certificate of elegibility. Where are you traveling from?

Shikoku, I'll be travelling from California. Were you nervous about buying an airline ticket before getting the visa? |

Don't sweat it, I did the Spring semester gig for Westgate this year. It's normal for Westgate not to tell you your location until a couple of weeks before you get there. I will be going back for the Fall semester and I don't know for sure where I will be despite asking for the same location. See you all in September. |

It's good to know your coming back for another semester ajarn. When I first found out about westgate all I heard was negative posts from second hand experiences.
Can you recommend anything to bring? What location were you in last semester? See you in Tokyo! |

Hey I found out my location today. It's the same school so no big suprises for me. My apartment is a little closer to the school so that's better. Still, don't get worked up if you haven't found out yet. I'm doing the Accredited course so I start on September 17th (a little earlier than most others).
Shikoku I was in Yamanashi prefecture last time (western tokyo). What to bring? different strokes for different folks. About the only thing I needed to bring that I didn't last time was an iron, but you can buy these cheap in Tokyo anyway. Things like coathangers etc you can sort out at a 100 yen shop.
Pack less than you think you need (except for your professional attire). |

I'm in Chiba prefecture. I'm starting to get nervous now...I can't find any information on the town I'm staying in. Do you know why they require 80,000 yen in cash on arrival? Can we not just get the money out from a bank? |

The 80,000 is to get you through until your first pay which won't be until about October 20th. Of course you can withddraw from an ATM provided you can find one that will take your card and is open at the time you want to go there. Remember the Japanese banking system is not like what you are used to. ATM's aren't everywhere and most don't take internationally recognized cards. On top of that they have opening and closing hours.
So you're in Chiba, all I know is earthquakes are much more fun up that way, enjoy! |
