This is a thread for those of us who have Turkish partners and, more specifically, those who have had children - passing on experiences, advice etc, in particular the quirks of bringing up baby both alaturka and alafranga at the same time. Unless, of course, the usual suspects hijack to talk about footie, otter-related musings or to descant upon certain language schools.
I'm also starting it because at 9.40 this a.m., son no.2, Sean Dogac, was born, weighing in at 7lbs (that's 3kg 200gr. in weird money)
so - naming baby? bringing him/her up? how many clothes must the child wear, even when it's 32 degrees outside? food? tell us!

Well ,that something to be grateful for ,sorry just musing! Got no dustbin lids, can't relate to this thread, however,I predict as in most mixed marriages there will be totally different ideas about bringing up said lids, could be fun ,more likely will be a nightmare when the in-laws get their oar in ,having one of em already ,I suspect you've learned that lesson already . Good luck, reckon you'll need it .

Very Happy

contentedly sleeping. I have to say, this was a much easier birth than for no.1, which happened in a private hospital in Istanbul. The NHS care plan was also far more comprehensive than the 700+ we shelled out last time. In fact, what my wife had to go through last time was utterly shocking; Nurses who ignored her, or tried to make her walk THREE HOURS after having a general anaesthetic and c-section, only because they wanted to free up her bed; no help whatsoever with helping her with baby care; non-existent professional follow-up; and a dirty, cold hospital - yes, I mean you, Ozel Camlik Hastanesi, Bakirkoy. I shudder to think what the SKK experience could be.

congrats from me too. My daughter, born with the help of a British midwife in a birth home in the US, is about to turn 29, and my son, born at home with a ghanian midwife, is 26. they have turned into very nice adults in spite of all the mistakes both parents made. I think we try our best but we still manage to warp our kids a bit Rolling Eyes it's a great adventure though

Well since Golightly started this off, I'd like to ask the first question..... Confused

Our son's doctor told us not to buy any shoes or let him walk with shoes on until he's 18 months old...We like our doctor but he's 14 months old now and running all over the place...... we feel we should get him some shoes....

What do you think we should do... What do Doctors in the U.K (and the rest) have to say..... Question Confused

It's very possible that there are better places to look on the internet for advice on raising a child.

Hey, congratulations Golightly!

As long as we're on this topic, I'll steal the thunder a little by mentioning that justme is, in fact, justwe at the moment. 6 months and getting fatter, sort of.

I'll spare everyone the millions of ways my mother-in-law has found to drive me insane. Suffice it to say that offering conclusive proof I didn't freeze my ovaries by not wearing slippers hasn't changed the slipper issues one bit.
