| They are also promoted by Griffith University, Australia re: recruitment. |

Sorry do not have any information re the IAT and these positions but I did notice that Zayed University advertised yesterday on Dave's for similar positions which it calls Native English Language Teacher (NELT's)..I believe they also have a contract with (ADEC) Abu Dhabi Education Council to implement this initiative.
So if this is something you are interested in I advise you to apply through ZU as I imagine they will offer a better package than IAT. Plus Griffith do not in themselves have the best reputation re recruiting - they also recruit for jobs in Qatar and Oman and there has been some negative postings regarding them on those forums.

Be warned - steer clear!
No development, no infrastructure and no support from IAT.
Pay heed!! |

Could you expand on that? Have you actually worked there, or are your comments based on other teachers' experiences at IAT?
As a prospective applicant to IAT, there is some cause for concern.

Ghost I think the poster is referring to the positions advertised whereby IAT works wirth Abu Dhabi Education Council to put teachers into the secondary schools to work with the exisiting non native speaking English teachers, where I can imagine from my own experience of local schools , the conditions (infrastructure ) is pretty bad.
You on the other hand would be working directly for IAT and teaching in the IAT school in Al Ain which would be an altogether different experience. |

Thanks for that.....the contract is to teach (one believes) grades 5-8 or something in that region.
One is going there with an open and positive mind, and one just hopes it turns out better than teaching at a Private school in Turkey (2003 school year) where the kids were literally jumping off the walls and hitting each other during English class time.....chaos, chaos, aided and abetted by an indifferent Turkish administration.......the grades taught in Turkey were grades 4 and 5, and they were mixed classes of ``nouveau riche`` Turkish kids.
Ghost vowed to never step into a children`s classroom again after that experience, but now it is back again. Luck and good fortune will be needed, and a dose of appropriate ``Inche Allah`` one feels.

I find it odd that you started this thread and now are the one giving the advice. If you have learned something significant about the situation, please do share it with the readers who may have offers.

Perhaps you might offer specific reasons as to why ghost should not take up the position offered.
Ghost does not want to land in a chaotic classroom situation again, where children are ''forced'' to learn English. Some people can deal with that, but ghost does not want to deal with that again. A good salary is all good and well, but if ghost has to sell its soul to get that pay cheque.....it would prefer not to.
Thank you for a bit more information. Concerned future UAE teacher.

As a future employee of ADEC-IAT one is very concerned about the negative press surrounding the place.
Tales of teachers who have left and not honored their contracts are of great concern.
However, ghost will try to make the best out of a situation which might be a challenge.
Are there any teachers out there who have actually made a success out of teaching with ADEC-IAT? and what golden advice would those successful teachers have with regard to handling the situation and the possible limitations which may exist teaching there?
Any relevant information would be most appreciated.

| Make sure these positions advertised are for secondary and not middle school. Middle school teaching is a nightmare in most places. |

| :( Quite simply there is no project at IAT (ADEC). The reality is the female teachers are teaching at a girl's primary/secondary school and the men teachers are teaching at a boy's secondary school. There are many problems at both schools especially among the women who are supervised by a woman with no Middle Eastern experience let alone with no teaching experience and who constantly bullies and humiliates the teachers. My only advice to teachers considering working at IAT (ADEC) be prepared for a harrowing teaching experience. |

Ghost
Don't do it. If you want to come to this area look for a job teaching at university or college level. |
