Will be arriving there soon and just wondered if there any little culinary things I can bring from the UK which you all wish they had there but don't?
I mean, I have no idea what they do and don't have, but little sachet-type things such as proper gravy and the like. I know I will be bringing a lifetime supply of Schwartz Satay mix. Things of that nature.
Also, what about getting my over there? I have it all in my UK bank (Natwest) at the moment but will I be to victim of ridiculous charges were I do withdraw it there and put it into a to-be-opened Turkish bank account?
Wouldn't I get a better exchange if I did bring a massive wadge of cash over? Yea, risky I know but just curious.
Anyway, thanks for any tips |

| Bisto. About the only thing which is difficult to find. As for the bank the exchange rate is crap through banks. So best to set up a Turkish bank account asap and transfer money into it. |

| Definitely bring as much gravy as possible. The lifetime supply of Schwartz Satay is a necessity as well. And the wadges of cash are essential enough that I wouldn't worry even if they were overflowing in your pockets. You're going to do just fine here. |

| bring some cash (but don't cash in for TL until you get here) and your ATM card. Then set up a bank account, though you need to get a tax number first. |

| Brown sauce and branston can be found in the better supermarkets. I agree with you about real gravy but it is good for thickening up stews and casserouls(sp?) |

| I have a Natwest bank account but don't use it here. Instead I recommend opening an account with Nationwide Building Society. You can have an e-savings account which is an internet bank account which pays reasonable interest and a flex account which gives you a Visa debit card. You can therefore control the flow between these accounts from Turkey, moving funds into the Flex account as and when you need it, you can then withdraw the money from any ATM with NO CHARGES! As far as I'm aware this is the only account to offer this service. |

Still haven't seen any branston anywhere. I always get OXO cubes when I have visitors so I can make some Scouse. |

What's scouse( in food terms)? Next time I see some Branston I'll pick you up a bottle and lob a bottle at your next gig on stage... makes a change from knickers.
btw I heard a rumour that one of the delis on Kurtulus Cad has the squeezy bottles of branston(small chunks) I can't confirm this rumour though. |

Scouse is the food that us lot get our knick name from.
İngrediants
Tatties, tinned tommies, carrots, onions, as much meat as you can afford, and and oxo cube. Serve with crusty bread and pickled beetroot. |
