The nalesniki is always good, but not so filling sometimes--it's nice to have pancakes with something other than maple syrup for a change.
Ironically, though, I think my favourite is the PIZZA--the cheese seems to be quite good here and it's not expensive. Don't go for that goofy Polish custom of putting ketchup on it, though.
I hear that Bigos is good, but I'm not a meat eater, so I wouldn't know from experience...

yeah, i like nalesniki, especially the ones from Krakow, although i think the name of the place was "french crepes" (in polish of course), so they might of been french? lol

Right now I'm cravinvg the real zapiekanka, and I can't find it anywhere here (except for some untasty imitation ones)...

Golabki, klopsiki and beef/chicken rolada, preferably home made, are pretty good. Face it though, Polish food is basically cr@p.

what are klopsiki?

well i like polish cuisine... Laughing, at least there is some taste to it, unlike canadian or american which is just so plainly-beefy-boring-same. i'm more into cultural/traditional dishes than 'western' foods such as KFC, Burger King, Pizza Pizza, etc...boring...

Surprised

My favourite has to be Pierogi Very Happy Got to love the pierogi.
Placki are also good (potato pancakes yum)
Bigos is up there as well
Sledzie(pickled herrings) great with vodka
Rosol(chicken soup) Great after a night out:) KAC.

Overall tasty food and somewhat healthy which keeps the girls looking slim and beautiful not like the girls from our home countries who indulge fast food. Well, not all of them anyway.

Pierogi; poor man's ravioli. Placki ziemnaczane smothered in sauce is pretty good.

Klopsiki is kind of meat balls in a tomato sauce (aka poor man's Italian meat balls Wink)

Whereas Polish is about 10 variations on pork, cabbage and potatoes. Don't get me wrong, I would kill for my grandmother-in-law's bigos, and can devour fawolki by the truckload, but once every two months I really need a mouth-searing curry or mexican, just to remind my tongue what other things taste like.

Hey Tumteetum,
The trick with Pierogi is after they are boiled is to put some either butter or olive oil in a pan a lightly fry them until golden brown and add salt to taste. I can taste them now Very Happy The cabbage and mushrooms are far better than the meaty ones.
Golonka is not to bad either if it hasn't got too much fat on it. I like it with horseradish.

Kielbasa!

At the Chicago airport they even have a dog whose sole purpose is to sniff out kielbasa from Poland.

The dog comes out when the Poles come in and if the dog is sniffing around your bags then the immigration officer will say, "Alright give me the kielbasa."

I can't believe you don't love the cultural delights of Polish food. I agree though it is basically all minging. I have students who keep insisting that that rubbery stuff they call cheese is the best anywhere. I just look confused and call them liars before beating a couple to death as an example for others as to why they should not be so stupid.

Sledz po kaszupsko

zurek

zeberka

kaszanka

but best of all

golambek and grzby

Not favourite as not frequent but way up there with the best dishes in my life...
If you are really fortunate to be living with your family or with friends over the Xmas holidays there is a ficsh soup made especially for the christmas meal that defied me not to have another bowl......three times
and there I was trying really hard to be polite as the family guest and could see the groaning table of traditional Polish 'hospitality' more soup please and bread to dunk in it. The mother kept smiling all the evening as we discussed exactly how it was made and enthused about fish
The memory of that soup will stay with me till the end of my days.
Sorry folks it is a one-off for Xmas only so make sure you are invited for it this year.

-will- what exactly is kaszanka? Shocked
I actually like that fish soup for Christmas...well not sure if it's the same, but wasn't made from a fish call karp? Question

-gregoryfromcali- I can't believe they actually have dogs sniffing polish kielbasa at the Chicago airport. Laughing Why? What's wrong with polish kielbasa? i think that's so funny Razz , and never heard of it...but that may be cuz i never travelled with kielbasa.

-Within-Temptation- yeah, you're rosol rocks. It's good to have it when you're sick, somehow it makes the flu go away...

I also like polish bread...white, and grainy one especially...and when it comes to sweets, i like ptasie mleczko (birds milk? Laughing ), and that fudge candy call krowka...
