Is 8 days normal? How long does it take to get rejected? I had my interview in Vancouver.

The whole appointment process is very prolonged so you must be prepared to wait at every stage.
Hang on if you really want the job and make sure you don't give up your own job until you actually get a contract!

I should have known it would take longer but I swear I read somewhere that it takes no more than a week to get accepted or rejected. It's irritating to say the least because I am pretty sure I did not get the job, but the longer I wait the more hope keeps creeping in and that is not good, especially if in the end, I get rejected.

And there is no way I will quit my job until I see some papers. Not until I arrive in Hong Kong that's if I do will I believe this job is for real.

I am afraid to say that you may have to wait a while longer. I have heard of, and met, numerous people who have had to wait many months before hearing anything. The EMB won't, how shall we say, be 'rushed' or 'hurried'. Having said that I don't suppose it would be deleterious to chase them up by way of a telephone call or email.

Cool it is an extended holiday weekend in HK...I doubt that anybody at EMB will be worrying about NET scheme interviews until next week, at the earliest!

Good luck to you.

Arrow btw: I also interviewed recently for PNET...and have not received any notification.

True, and when they do return to work they will busy themselves with the tasks that normally occupy the largest portion of their 'working day', viz., checking the values of their stocks and shares in the global markets, asking each other whether their new haircuts make them 'look Japanese', and eating noodles in soup.

Haha. So do I hear from Hong Kong or Vancouver? I ask because I sent an email to the Vancouver people.

Patience . . . grasshopper....

The job doesn't even begin until August, so what difference is it gonna make if you hear back 10-15 working days after interview as opposed to 7? It's a 4-day long weekend, so relax already...

And If I was among those in the Vancouver office handling the mountains of interview materials, and at the same time I had to field e-mails demanding: "It's been 8 days, when am I gonna know...?" - well, just let them do their work. You'll know by the middle of April latest.

By the way, I too interviewed in Vancouver, and I don't expect any word for at least another week.

If you interviewd in Vancouver through the CEC Network, you should be getting a reply this week. I was informed by one of the company officers from the Toronto office that emails would be sent out the second week of April to all successful applicants. I think today is a holiday in Canada, so these emails should be sent out tomorrow at the earliest. No mention was made of how the unsuccessful applicants would be treated.

The wait is killing me...

If you're to be notified within two weeks of interview by a recruitment company, you're ahead of those interviewed by EMB in Hong Kong.

I was interviewed (at EMB ) in March and was not advised till late June. That was several years ago, but from what I hear from other newbies, things haven't changed much.
Others interviewed at the same time as me also had to wait till June-July and then of course had the mad rush to sell the car, dispose of furniture and make arrangements for moving out of their homes. Some had to give very late notice to their current schools.
This is a situation largely unappreciated by HK natives who, if offered an overseas posting, would simply pack their suitcase and leave - because they usually live with their parents and extended family.

But don't let the waiting get you down misu - save all your energy for when you arrive in August and experience the double whammy of NET culture shock and the heat of high summer!!!!

By all accounts, the best thing to do at this point seems to be to try forgetting about the whole thing entirely for the next few months. Easier said than done, though.

A question for you, hkteach: did you not hear anything at all until June? The recruitment company told me that although the actual position offers will not be made until much later, they will be sending emails out this week just to let us know if we "passed" the interview.

I am usually a pretty patient person, but I've already checked my email about twenty times today. If you can't tell, I am very eager to get this job.

Me too misutabiru. I checked my emails so many times that I think I need to occupy myself with something else. Did you get the email from CEC about other jobs? I thought that was a sign to look for other jobs and I think that's what I will do.

Glad to hear that I am not alone in this ordeal, krumlov. I did not receive that email from CEC, but I wouldn't read too much into that. Sometimes no news is good news, sometimes no news is bad news, and sometimes no news is just...no news.

Take heed of what the more experienced people have posted here: it is a long process.
