are there any jobs in costa rica that pay more than 6-7 dollars/hour? if not, do most of you work ridiculous hours just to get by? i keep reading about jobs that pay 4-5 US/hour, and i couldn't imagine teaching 30 hours/week at that rate. |

Well, er, I'm not sure if I understand you correctly but yeah, the pay level is relatively low compared to the US, but obviously you'll be paying lower prices for food and rent as well. Does that answer your question? 8 bucks an hour teaching ESL in Costa Rica, well, good luck with that. :) |

i understand the cost of living is relative to the pay, but do the better schools and universities have wages in the $7-8/hour range, or is everything mostly $5/hour regardless of whether you're teaching at a large uni or small private school? |

Try some of the private universities like ULatina and ULacit. I know that Ulatina English Speaking Center pays a lot more than 4-5 an hour |

8 bucks an hour would translate to... okay, to 4000 colones, I imagined it would be a lot more. Yeah, it's doable. Quite so, in fact, but you'll probably need some prior teaching experience to get it. |

thanks for the advice guys. i know it sounds petty asking if there are $8/hour jobs available as opposed to $5/hour positions, but a few bucks makes a huge difference considering the fact that i'm only planning on working a max of 16 hours per week. hopefully a school like ULatina would be willing to hire someone to work such hours. |

I believe that most places would start out the new people at these hours.
Lets see, 4 nights a week at 2 hours a night (regular integrated classes), then one saturday class at 5 hours, mmmmmmmmmmm close.
youll never know till you try.
cheers

Sounds like he's planning on travelling so Saturday classes might be out of the question. It'll be interesting to see what he makes of it :) |

what are class hours usually like during the week? here in korea i often don't start working until 4pm, then typically get off around 9. is costa rica like this, or is it more of a morning-afternoon schedule? |
