Wondering how rapidly Vietnam is developing since trading has been renewed with the US etc.?
I understand this is a very broad question. Perhaps you can cite some examples to give us an idea.
I have noticed on other threads that people are commenting that it is exploding! If this is true, how? |

Don't get your hopes up too much. Vietnam has still has quite a long way to go in terms of development before it begins to resemble Thailand. But things are changing quickly, so there is some general improvement is the quality of life, but not much.
Most of the development is infrastructure projects (water treatment, road improvement, supposedly a subway in Saigon, etc.) and office buildings, housing projects, crappy fast food places and a few convenience stores.
Also, the education business is continually expanding so there is plenty of work around. |

Thanks Sigmonid. I thought it would take some time before it develops into another Thailand. |

^ Teachers cannot (at least right now), but for other positions that actually involve teaching you can get a work permit. Does that make sense? Probably not. That said, most teachers do not have work permits. |

So we need a degree to get a teaching position in Vietnam?
Does one also need a TEFL (CELTA, TESOL) certificate? |

Of course, that's anywhere as well, my friend. |

Anywhere;defined as any place that actually seeks to improve the level of English speaking competence rather than uphold, maintain and promote a perception of care. |

Thank you for confirming my suspicions that "anywhere" is really not "anywhere." |

That was funny, but I agree - some people at some times in some places need a university degree and a TEFL certificate, while others do not.
So, while a degree is needed to teach legally in Vietnam, does one also have to have a TEFL certificate?
Thank you. |
