hello everyone.....

i am just about to finish my contract at ef, after two years...i made it to senior teacher, and they want me to continue...however, i am certain that other possibilities exist, probably with better working conditions, so i want to see what else is out there....the usual job postings seem to be all ef, and any interesting places offer low low salaries..any help in where to look and any tips would be greatly appreciated

Depending on where you live in Jakarta, I'd go check out EEC. I worked at the Slipi branch years ago and I was happy there. Since then I've had other opportunities that worked out better for me. The DOS, Justin, is a good guy, and EEC pays more than EF, I think. They also have a branch in Bintaro and Kelapa Gading.

It depends if you want to stay on in ESL - TBI pay about 14.5 approx per month in the central branch, less in Kelapa Gading. Or, look into a Nat.Plus school - at least 18 a month. Depends on what you want to teach........

A lot of nat plus jobs are posted locally on www.jobsdb.com

When you go to the website click on Indonesia then in 'jobs by category' click on 'education'. This site carries jobs for Indonesian nationals as well as FT's so you have to fish around a bit. Note that except for emergencies (or incredibly high staff turnover in some schools) Nat plus schools don't generally recruit mid semester.

Can I just second what Beefer said. I was getting very good pay and housing from the school that I just recently left. My happiness was worth more than the money and at the end of the day there were just too many dodgy things happening that I didn't want to be a part of. Money isn't everything

Of course beefer and sherlock are absolutely right here. Being content is worth more than a couple of juta. If money was everything we wouldn't be in this game, now would we?

Anyone know where to find an up-to-date list of national plus schools? The one I've found seems to be about two years old. My contract with EF ends in June, but I want to get an early start on trying to find another place of employment. Not sure what I can find with just a year of experience. I'll check out TBI, but I'm not too crazy about language mill hours.
