|
|
Hello everybody! I don't if this has been covered before... I usually just stay on the Mexico forum. Which is the best country to work in, on average, in regards to pay. Now I know there are different costs of living and other factors involved. Still I would like to see what others think.
In Mexico the pay rate varies widely, but I would say the average is between US $800-1200 per month. The top pay range is about US $2,000.
How is it in other countries?
Thanks for your feedback! |

For Mexico, chunk that up a bit, to 3100 usd and you'd be right (recent job ad in Culiacan gives us that). However, I hear you can garner up to $4500 in good schools in Bogota, Colombia. |

You probably should have included Panama in your survey.
The pay is better than most on your list...if you have a work permit.
But that topic alone opens up a Pandora's Box .

Isn't it gonna be a little difficult to vote if you haven't been in all those countries? |

No, not if we get responses from people working in those countries, Part of my job is is to send people to all these Latin American countries so it's of great interest to see the popular perception on pay. |

I chose Ecuador, not because it's objectively true, you understand, but because it's the country where they pay ME the most.
Mostly because I don't work in the others.
Honestly, though- Ecuador would be pretty mid range, (Say $600 to $800 US per month Average) but the range is enormous. There are schools with teachers on $300, and international schools and some unis paying $3000. It just depends.
Overall, pay to cost of living ratio here isn't that great, as dolarization hasn't been that kind to us.
Best,
Justin |

I voted Mexico.
With an MA you can make over 30,000 pesos a month (about 3,000 US dollars a month).
SURE you could spend all that, but it is possible to live quite cheaply here. |

Doing what? I've never seen anything that high. That's serious money in Mexico! |

Living way high on the hog I imagine. I'm sure I could do a lot of damage with 30k a month.
Tec de Monterrey offers up to that much. And you Philk, you should be able to pull in that much or more running a language school. |

Teaching English at one of those snooty private universities that think they are the best, but in recent years are beat out in national competitions by this little public school in the poorest region of the poorest state of Mexico (which pays its English teachers much less!) Of course appropriate higher degrees and publications are required...
Oh and Justin if you are ever ready to move to the big time, send me your resume. |

I think we are talking about teacher's salaries not the profits of education institutions. That's one of the reasons many fail, the owners consider income= (more or less) owner's salary. |

I don't think the country matters so much as the place you're teaching. I've seen horrible jobs in Peru and wonderful jobs. I'm sure the same goes for other countries.
I've seen jobs here in Peru for 200 USd a month, they claim that you'll live like a Peruvian and really get to know the culture. I've seen others that pay about 3000USD a month, 15 salaries a year, BUt taxes are from 15 to 30 percent. |
