Anyone know anything about this language college? Just seen an ad on TEFL.com and was thinking about applying?

Notice they dont supply accom, if this quite standard in Indonesia?

According to their website they want attractive and energetic teachers under 40. And to think I just turned 40 this year. Crying or Very sad

The job is for a minimum of 20 hours a week. Hmmm I would check what the maximum would be if I were you.

I did notice the minimum hours....

In honesty, I worry about a lot of other things first. Maybe Ill drop em an email and see what happens

I don't know anything about this school in particular but I taught in Bandung in the 80's, in my opinion it's the coolest place in Indonesia to teach as far as the weather,culture and people are concerned.

Bandung in the 80's is not the same as Bandung in 2008 though. I like the place but I bet it was a 100 times better 25 years ago.

Yesterday it was 33C in Bandung. Part climate change, part urbanisation.

You're probably right about the climate change, I never experienced temperatures that high in Bandung. The city is probably a lot different as well, but on the whole all of Indonesia has changed along with it in the same direction, so perhaps in a general way, bandung is still at the top of the heap.

Also taught in Surabaya, not bad, and Jakarta, not my cup of tea. I was in Indonesia most of the 80's.

Teaching then was like being part of a genltemens club, 10-12 hours a week, no prep, no homework, tests corrected by secretaries, going out with students to ritzy clubs and resorts constantly and getting paid $1,000usd a month. Cost of a very comfortable lifestyle about 250 bucks a month. All this with only a non-related degree.

Times have changed.

Hi all,

I've lived/worked in Bandung for a little over three years now, and NO the Language schools here do not provide accomodation. A couple of the Nat Plus schools do though. If renting a house your looking at somewhere in the region of 10-15 Juta/year.

I've not heard of the school that the initial enquiry was about...

I spoke this school a couple of years ago when I was starting out here. The DOS was an idiot. He tried to tell me that Indonesian students would be confused with my "non-standard" English as I was from Northern Ireland. Shocked

If I was ole Rog, I'd take offence to that defamatory statement; unless he really has an IQ of under 25, in which case he probabaly can't read the whinge fest that this site has become.

I used to be one of BLCI's teachers. I know one English teacher there (who's still teaching there) whose grammar is not good at all, and she didn't even know how to spell 'sophisticated'. And the students have been complaining of her 'strange' accent for she's from Yorkshire. But as long as you're physically attractive and young, you don't have to worry about being laid off:-)

You can be laid off at anytime without prior notice. You're hired only when they need you, and you're dumped when you're no longer needed.
