Now that the weather has warmed up;bird-watching(gal watching) season is officially open.
The ladies are wearing less and less, but it seems to me that I'm seeing a lot more "bigger" gals around town.
5or 6 years ago,it was a rarity to see a really "big" younger lady, but this season, there seems to be more and more of them around.
Not up to Western levels yet,but I'm seeing a worrisome trend developing.
All those kebab shops, burger joints and pizza places will eventually their toll on Poland's best export unfortunately. |

I noticed this in Hungary 6 years ago. Over 25 - slim and lovely. Under 18 - definitely getting the Macdonalds paunch. Worse now... |

I haven't noticed this to be honest, but one way or the other I think by the time Polish women get through 5 years of university living on bread crumbs, then join the workforce with two jobs doing 14 hours a day for 5zł an hour, they conform to Polish standards.
By the way, does anyone remember the summer here about 5 years ago when the ladies fashion was white see-through pants with colourful G strings? That was a fantastic summer. |

Unfortunately,I don't remember the see through white trousers/g-string summer!
Poland is about 30 years behind in its capitalistic development beacuse of the lost years after the war.
Unfortunately,I see bird's waistlines increaisng as wealth and capitalism increase over the next few decades.
Enjoy em while you can before they all become heffers.
Polish chicks like to go on about about how slim and beautiful they are compared to "western girls",but that's simply because they haven't had the chance or means to get fat yet. Those fat times are a comin! |

You also have to take what 'poverty' means into account. Old style poverty meant lots of manual labour, lots of walking, eating fruit and veg from the garden. Modern poverty means cheap fat-filled economy food from the local supermarket and evenings in front of the TV. |

I've had loads of experiences here with the women over the past 15 or so years. I've even got a divorce under my belt.
Re-the OP? Yep there are more fatties around (myself sadly now included)...there's no doubt about it. As I know mostly about Poznan, it's like this. The rynek used to have 1 pub and 1 posh restaurant. It's now full of eateries and bars. Late night there are half a dozen hatches from which you can stuff your face with burgers, kebabs and tortillas. More money=more going out and unhealthy living=obesity.
You always wonder how Polish girls look so good, so slim even though you never see them jogging etc. All you have to do is go flat hunting and see how they live. Flats are inhabited but empty of meaningful decoration. Fridges have half a tomato and some cottage cheese. They forego everything to remain 'good to look at' and that usually means eating properly. The interiors of most flats you go into are just shocking.
So next time you're kissing some beauties thighs, just remember the toilet she's been using, the cruddy soap, tracing paper toilet paper and nylon pants. Just remember that a night out for her means drinking 1 maybe 2 beers from a straw and copping off with a Polish guy (say no more). You come along and drown her with booze and grub and expensive presents and it's a no brainer.
Most of the birds are schemers, looking for the next free ride.
They're beauties yes, but they're mostly snakes with cycy. The snakes are definitely getting bigger though.
I married a 49kg, well dressed, privately educated girl; beautiful to look at but a beast inside. The beast came out when I moved to the Middle East and started earning real money.
And c'mon we know they're not the most faithful of people don't we boys? |

Mr.Sharter, your description of Polish women is pretty accurate. The amount of extra-marital affairs that go on here is mind boggling.
Polish dudes are always willing to scope out any chick including the married ones.Personally,I still respect the sanctity of marriage and would never fool around with a married bird.Polish dudes are another story.85% of them are not the most scrupulous of characters.
After 6 years here,I've only got a couple of Polish dude "acquaintances" and no real friends per say. They usually to prefer to hang out with other Poles or only call you up when its 2am and they are pissed and out at the pub.
Had an Australian friend who lived here for years. He said the same thing. He didn't have any real Polish mates, and said they only contacted him when they were loaded drunk and wanted him to meet up with them.
In every other country I've lived in,I always had a plethora of local male friends, many of whom I still keep in contact with.Different story here though. |

I've always found that having Polish male friends means that I fork out a lot more than them when we go out drinking. It was true in 96 and is true now.
Most Brits I know have 1 or no real friends outside the expat community. They all seem to know lots of girls though!!
Sorry to put a downer on it, but the same girls who were having casual sex last weekend are all good catholics this weekend dressed in their best, carrying flowers for Granny etc.
The place is maddeningly contradictory....but I love it. |

I dunno about the other cities, but in Wroclaw Im starting to see fat people, I mean something Ive never seen before, real fat people. Most older people have that "belly" that I find completely acceptable, but Im starting to see it turn more into "huge gut and fat ass", even children who I'd say are obese by American standards... its depressing.
Sharter, I agree with what your saying, but god damn it sounds like youve got some anger issues to deal with, sorry about your bad luck and all with Polish woman. A lot are kinda screwed up in the head, overly materialistic, manic depressive or neurotic. A lot of it stems from family problems, or being poor... so watch out. |

Anger wouldn't be the right word. I have a sense of sadness about attitudes in modern Poland.
Poznan's got amazing malls, great sporting venues and a beautiful rynek. In many ways, it's got things you'd struggle to find in the UK. I just find it socially backwards.
Yeah, foreigners are accepted and welcomed even, but it's very superficial. At the end of the day you're not Polish and that's the end of it. |

spent some time in the rynek yesterday.
i don't know if they're getting fatter, but one thing I can tell you that certainly hasn't changed.........the size of the birds........eh ehhhmm.......double yolks....?
and they've never been afraid to display them either. |

You're dead on, Mike.
There is a way to eat healthy and remain healthy living the modern lifestyle, but, as you say, it's more expensive. Often much more expensive.
I remember my sixth grade science teacher making a point about that one day. He mentioned how fat laden junk food had become so much cheaper in the US than the good whole foods that the body needs.
The rich eat well, and the poor eat what they can afford. That has always been the case. What has changed is the type of food which the poor can now afford.
Education about eating right starts at home. My family definitely wasn't rich, but we found a way to eat right. Maybe they don't have that option here? I don't know. |

story from this morning's experience:
morning class at a company, a few Polish people, and it was a bit of a lazy morning so the class was mostly conversation about this and that.
the conversation shifted to fast food, and of course McD's came up. i asked the class which fast food restaurant they go to when they have no other choice but to eat fast food.
the first to respond was a guy that I never really got along with, and he's a really typical Pole. 28 years old, master's degree in computer something, hates america and everything about it, recently moved into his parents' 2nd floor which he recently made into an apt......oh, and loves Polish beer and thinks it's the best in the world.
anywho, his response was, "there's always a way to avoid fast food," followed by an eyeroll and then he says, while snickering to himself, "i don't eat fast food, i will do anything to avoid it....." in the usual Polish fashion.
no more than 2 minutes before I asked the initial question about fast food, the same guy was telling me that he goes to Biedronka to shop because they have a special kind of parowki that he likes that he buys every week (parowki being Polish code for HOT DOGS). It is also worth noting that this guy is no less than 50 lbs. overweight and has never exercised a day in his life.
so being the snide ass that I am, or maybe just someone getting older and less patient with ignorance, I calmly but firmly followed up his comment with, "so you will eat big fatty pieces of sausage (hotdogs would have been too offensive ) with buttered bread every week but fast food is out of the question?"
3 seconds of complete silence from everyone but i firmly held my ground and waited for an answer........and then the unexpected happened. he said, "yeah......i guess you're right......"
point of the story is that the Poles need to start to wash out of their minds the American stereotypes that they like to tout around and joke about amongst their friends, because now, and as long as kielbasa and pierogi fried in butter and covered in carmelized onions and bits of boczek have existed, the poles have been eating no healthier than the Duhmericans. Also, this experience proves that their mindset is not an impenetrable wall, they just need more people to show them the other side, that there is in fact other things in this world besides kielbasa, pierogi, Zywiec, soccer, catholicism, and white people.
Poles love to laugh about how americans eat this and that, cheeseburgers every day, but I can guarantee you that if you added up the calories in a big piece of kielbasa with bread and butter, cheese, etc., it's got at the very least as many calories as a big mac and fries. they laugh at McD's food because it's this funny American commercialized thing, but because kielbasa falls under their "traditional food", it can't be critiqued or it's nutritional value questioned. Let's look at it for what it is.....a fatty greasy piece of meat consisting of leftover parts of animals, stuffed into a sausage casing. but maaaaan i love it
i haven't eaten at a McDonald's in 14 years, but I know damn well that my weekly intake of kielbasa is no better for my waistline, and as this thread has pointed out, lately it's not helping the Poles' waistlines either. |
