Right, I've had it with these people (mentioning no names of course) who take up all my screen's real estate with huge avatars and, for the most part, give us one line posts.

So, I've decided that there will be some new clauses added to the registering page when you join this forum viz.:

Your post must equal or exceed the length of your avatar on screen. If you cannot meet this requirement, you should reduce the size of your avatar accordingly.

Members with no avatar are prohibited from posting until they acquire one. They can, however, simply lurk.

Members whose avatars go missing displaying a red x in a box for more than 24 hours will be prohibited from posting.

Members whose avatars which, if converted to text form, would be beep-ed, will be terminated immediately

Hmmm. Any clauses on how often avatars should or can be changed? If there is a rotation requirement, then I'll probably end up on eslcafe probation. Crying or Very sad

I hope this post is long enough according to the new rules!

d

p.s. D'oh!! Just a weeeeeee bit too short. This meaningless post-script should help, though.

Actually, there should be an extra clause whereby avatars can NEVER be changed - only if you change your username. Wink

Oh no! Avatar police.
This
is
one
way
to
avoid
the
new
rule.

What I find annoying is when someone povides a long link and you have to scroll to the right to read all of the posts on that page.

But I want one!

But I don't know how to get one!

So I don't have one!

Help!

(and yes, I have done google searches etc, but I am not the most tech savvy so I gave up after the 100th page or so...)

Laura,
Do a google search using the Images section. Then type in a category and voila.

No changing avatars? can I go for the same one but with a younger look?

AND (to take up some more space) to clairify the above posters advice:

Think of what you want your avatar to be. If you want, say, a picture of the Queens corgie, go to Google, click on "Images" and type in "corgies"

Look around, pick a picture you like, then RIGHT CLICK on the image and a menu will pop up. When the menu comes up, go all the way to the bottom and click "properties" (all this assuming your not one of those Mac users).

a new box will pop up. find "Address (URL)" and cut and paste that into the avatar box on your profile.

Then go back and view one of your posts to make sure it dosen't violate any of the new rules...... Sad

viola.

I'm with you on that one shmooj. Inconsiderate raggabouts, the lot of them!

Hola!

I like the avatars as much as the messages. It is interesting what people find funny, beautiful or interesting.

Dear shmooj,
Hmm - offhand I'd say your "New Avatar Rules" may have backfired. You should have realized that ESL/EFL teachers are usually a pretty ornery, contrarian bunch. The fastest way to get them to do something is to tell them NOT to do it.
Regards,
John
