Anyone know if it's possible for an American to extend or renew a tourist visa (i.e. the stamp from the Warsaw airport) WITHOUT leaving the country? |

In fact, technically, you have to leave for 90 days in this case! |

No biggie, yo.
I just needed a little more time for my visa/work permit paperwork to go through - about one week, in fact. But no can do, as everyone has posted.
So it looks like I'll have to go to Ukraine or another non-Schengen country before my 90 days are up and then come back to get a new stamp in my passport at the border.
Anyone need anything from the Ukraine? |

Schengen Law states that you are allowed to spend 90 days in a 180 day period in Schengen territory. if you use all your 90 days at once, well, then you have to leave and wait another 90 in order to get back in to get a new tourist stamp. planning on staying in Ukraine for 3 months Shake?
the days of hopping into another country and hopping back the same day and getting a new stamp are over.
i hope you have some way of finagling it without having to leave Poland for that long (there always seems to be either a loophole or someone behind a desk who doesn't care) but I'm just telling you what I know. |

Don't worry about it. If your paperwork is filed then you can stay here. Just don't go leaving until you get your karta pobytu. Technically the foreigner's office should put a visa in your passport if they don't issue you a decision before your time is up, but I've told them before to not give me a visa (because it takes up a whole page) when they promised to give me a decision a few weeks after my time was over. As long as you have even the application in on Dluga you can mess around getting your documents together for a while. If you're really worried just go tell them that you're illegal and need the visa (assuming you are in the process). |
