Moving to Oman soon, working for TATI. They're a bit vague sometimes when you ask questions. That made me really anxious (after I had read fifty dark posts here on problems in Oman) until I saw their website, which reassured me a lot. Anyone worked for them recently? Any information?

That would be great. I'm not there yet. Notice, I wrote I will be in Oman soon. Yes, if you have contact info for anyone working there, and particularly for TATI or who would know something about that organization, that would be very welcome. I've searched the posts pretty thoroughly, but didn't find anything recent either on Al Musanna or TATI.
Thanks! |

You are most welcome. Enjoy your stay in Oman. It is a wonderful country with many very nice people willing to share their lives and culture with visitors. The work is as good as it gets with the same frustrations and joys as any where....work is, as is life in general, what we make it.
Have a great experience, get out and experience Oman and keep a journal. |

Absolutely. Very right and true. Oman is fabulous; I really miss it. We're lucky to live in the UAE so we can go back for regular visits. It is a wonderful country to explore and the Omani people are very hospitable.
Many times in small villages we were invited in to share a cup of chai or gawa with a family. My wife would translate for us; as an Arab she says there are no Arabs as hospitable as the Omanis!! |

As to quality of life and the people, Oman can't be beat. It is amazing how many have left over the years and so regretted it. Many of them, like me, return for a second stint.
That said... for those taking jobs in some of the smaller villages... be sure that you can cope with the quiet lifestyle. It is not for everyone. I wouldn't have cared for it as I am not terribly outdoorsy.

There's no place like Oman. How many people are thinking of buying property there? Can anyone recommend a reasonably cheap housing project?

Yes, indeedy. I've had similar experiences myself with some of the Omanis - especial the Dhofaris. I've worked in Qatar (spoiled brats a lot of them with no inclination to work - why work or study when your uncle or father owns a company and you know you can go there if you blow it at QP?), Oman and now the UAE (the big city kids are almost as spoiled as the Qataris but the East Coast and Fujairah kids are OK. The Omanis are the nicest Arabs I've ever come across. The Jordanians are very nice too but nobody beats the natural courtesy of the Omanis, especially the jebalis and bedu. |
