I recently interviewed in San Francisco for the NET scheme and was denied. Can anyone else share their story for the recent interviews.

Then you would be surprised to find out that I am a NET and am in my 60s!
You must have a TESOL qualification if you want to be a PNET and you should also have some teaching experience. |

No one else? This forum is completely dead compared to the Korea forum. |

There's a reason for that.....
It would seem people in Hong Kong may be able to blow their nose without asking someone where to buy the tissues, where to politely blow their nose and just how many other people have actually blown their nose since Tuesday last week, when someone posted exactly the same question.... |

It would seem that you have a lot of time on your hands, going on forums to post such irrelevant gibberish.

Consider the size of Korea and HK, then guess at how many teflers there are in Korea and HK. Then how many visit this site.... Then you wrote your post between Xmas and New Year. So, yes this forum is quite likely to be dead. To be fair to ya, not that many people hang about this forum at the best of times.
And the 'irrelevant' post above could have even given you the idea to flick through older posts and find the answers you desire.
Anyway:-

I am glad to hear that they at EDB like older candidates so maybe I can do more years in Japan and try to apply later in life. But I am still wondering if it was my lacking of a teaching credential that proved to be my demise. |
Most teachers are above 40 and experience is definitely something the EDB look for. Most successful applicants have PGCE (or equivalent) plus a few years teaching exp.

Not me, sorry. Mine was January 2008. Had one local HK guy, one NET interviewer. Both very nice, polite, asked easy questions. Asked what I expected of the scheme or had heard about it. And small written test |

Concerning my original question, from what I gather, it is ideal to have a teaching credential(California) or its equivalent from another country, but applicants are sometimes hired without them, but rare it seems. If I am wrong someone let me know. |
You're right. Rarer and rare as more, fully qualified, and experienced, people are applying

Yup, I got in at the ripe old age of 35. Most of the NETs I meet are even older than that!

For the older NETs, I wonder if this is a short-time gig like it seems to be for the younger group, or do they tend to stay in HK and possibly retire there. I have so many questions but I'll stop |
The ones I've met have mostly been here for 2 or 3 contracts (ie. 4-6 years). I hope to do another 1 or 2 myself. |

Oxi, is that a zombie in your avatar? I'm a big zombie fan. If it is a zombie, what movie is it from? |

I can't remember the video source, but the title said it was a drunk Russian dude after falling into a ditch. Reminded me very much of my youth.
I can see a Zombie thing going on though. Romero rules! |

Don't be surprised...I gave up on the NET scheme. I have a teacher's license (PGCE) 6-12 English, BA in Chinese and an unrelated master's. I interviewed once for PNET and won't go again. I was interviewed by a ghastly and pretentious British woman who said "You speak English so well I can't even tell you're American." And I'm not kidding... I'm in the Middle East now. Gave up. |
