Reputable school. I do not know what it is like to teach in. Supposedly one of the best if not the best school in Bahrain. |

It's one of the most famous in Bahrain. A colleague of mine used to teach there. You do know it's a highschool though, right? As such, most positions require a teaching certification from your state board. I doubt they do non-resident hire, however.
BTW, why are you posting the same question in different forums (q.v. Saudi on British Int'l School or whatever it's called)? |

Hi, Thanks for info - much appreciated. To answer your Q's, well, I am am in fact a very highly experienced, and qualified teacher, and now it is recruiting time worldwide - so naturally want to get more valued and varied opinions from different people in different environments - I have already applied to said schools in question - hence different forums. |

Hi all...I had a strange response in one forum - Oman, asking why I didn't ask for info in a 'real' teachers website/forum?
I am a little confused - don't ESL people consider themselves teachers?..If not, then can someone tell me exactly HOW you consider yourselves?..I for one could not teach a language, at least not efficiently....and despite the bad press many of you get, due to people who THINK they are teachers, but know they are not.
At the end of the day, our business...err..forgive me...is Education right?
Am I wrong? |

Of course, you are right... and you will meet people on these boards with rather... umm... unusual ideas. ...goes with the territory. If you hang around here and read a bit, you will see. Threads sometimes veer off into odd tangents.
But, we are mostly ESL/EFL teachers here and we often don't know much about the "regular" teaching jobs. The way to find the best international schools is to find out where the embassy sends their kids (or the teachers here with kids). That usually means a more professional institution with better pay and benefits. There are some truly horrid schools... and some of them hire at the Job Fairs.
Did you try using the search mechanism? If you do, use the "search for all terms" choice and choose the country branch. Otherwise you get too much unrelated stuff.

Many Thanks VS...Yes, as a newcomer, I wasn't aware of the search facility........like being in a school - "No-one tells me nothing (ooops!...Sorry Teflers!) around here!" Thanks for your input, much appreciated. |

OTB Design,
Expect to earn around USD 3,000 + per month teaching in Bahrain at St. Christophers school IF you are a highly qualified TEFL instructor. |

May I suggest that, rather than asking about the different institutions, you start by learning about the living environments, i.e. countries and cities, themselves first? You may be able to get information about the schools of interest, but it will give you no indication of what kind of life you can expect and, believe me, the Middle East/Gulf is not the type of place where you can just focus on the job and not be affected by the encompassing culture.
If you have no experience of the Gulf and hail from a Western country, I would suggest Oman or Bahrain (in that order) and possibly the U.A.E. first. Once you've gotten the feel for the place, you could try Kuwait and Saudi.
Have a look at a few other posts here. You will find that in Bahrain schools resort to overseas hire mostly for master's holders and above, and that is in the case of tertiary educational establishments; only in very exceptional cases would a highschool hire a non-resident.
You will have much better chances in Oman or the U.A.E., so I advise you to pursue opportunities there. The problem with the U.A.E. is that the seven emirates differ wildly in terms of quality of life. There are some that are more open than even Morocco and some that are as bad as Saudi... |

For jobs in St Christopher's you have be a real teacher with BEd or PGCE. Quite right too. |

Couldnt agree more - which is why I have Qualified Teachers Status, a PGCE for Post 16 Education...., and a Masters in education.
Quite right too. |

One plus about Bahrain is that people with "Western" Passports can come and visit you quite easily. That means family and friends can come and stay. |
