What is the next stage if you have been given a "thumbs up" for 'Screening'? Thanks. |

Now you wait.
They will contact you if they want to interview you for a position.
It is the hurry up and wait cycle of HR in the UAE. |

Are you suggesting that you should be hired without an interview?
This is HCT... you will have an extensive interview with a group of usually 3-5 supervisors... and many more teachers fail at this point than succeed.

Once you get past the prescreening in the HCT online system, you wait ot get contacted for an interview.
This can be done via teleconferencing, a conference where HCT is represented, via telephone etc.
It will usually have 3 to 5 interviewers who ask you the questions. If you pass the interview, you will be put in the applicant "pool."
All of the branches who are looking for replacement teachers go into the pool and choose out the instructors they want and then offer them a position.
It is possible to pass prescreening, pass the interview and still not be offered a position. |

I remember that when you fill the application there is a part about "Willing to work in " and I didn't put Abu Dhabi.... will they still offer me there even if I didn't mention it?

I read the blog entries. The situation there appears dire. And does that mean passing the interview may come to zilch? |

The broad answer is --- wait there isn't one
You are not guaranteed an interview despite all the thumbs up.
Timing depends on HCT's needs for September - you may or may not get an interview, you may or may not get an offer and you may or may not have a Sept start date if you are offered a position.
This is the GCC and like many employers' here, they'll pull your name out if and when you are needed. Do they maybe lose some real gems? Yes, but the odds are in their favour.
Good luck |

Do they usually wait this long into the summer to fill fall positions? I thought the Hong Kongese were the only ones to start interviewing in late August for a September 1st start date. |
The answer is no. The paperwork process is too long for them to interview in August for a September start. But, they may interview for a later start.
Most interviews and offers were done in the spring. But for specific openings, they may have interviewed and offered on that position before they ever got to you. And the person that they offered to may have accepted and then backed out (got a better offer elsewhere?). Then they start again. But, I doubt that they are doing much interviewing now as everyone has left for summer holidays as are the people who make the offers.
If I were you, I wouldn't expect to be getting a job with them in September, but there could be a possibility for a late arrival (not common) or 2nd semester. There are no hard and fast rules... except for the rule that one spends a lot of time waiting at each step.

Do not expect courtesy or efficiency.
Twice, years ago, while working in Saudi Arabia, I went through the laborious process of applying to HCT online (and anyone who recalls the early days of the internet in KSA knows what I mean) and twice HCT contacted me to ask if I could fly to Abu Dhabi for an interview. Both times I went all sorts of trouble to arrange a day off from work, and start the long, difficult process of arranging a KSA exit visa and and UAE visa. And both times I contacted HCT to let them know I was coming and to ask follow up questions and both times I NEVER heard from them again--not one answer to several emails and phone calls pleading for more information.
After the second time I was so furious that I sent HCT an email telling them in very colorful language what I thought of their astounding rudeness and where they could go.
And true to their inefficieny, did anyone at HCT make a record of that email? Did they make a note never to hire me in the future? No. A few years later I was hired by HCT, and what a nightmare that turned out to be.
My advice to anyone waiting for word regarding a job which he or she has interviewed for at HCT or anywhere is keep looking elsewhere. DO NOT stop applying or interviewing until you have a contract in your hand. You may never hear from HCT. |

I can confirm that the HCT HR department has a short memory and scant resources to provide an efficient service.
I was originally given the green light by them some 12 years ago, but turned them down. When I reapplied several years later, they seemed to have no record of my previous application.
More importantly, I've actually met some of the people they employ to do the initial screening of applicants, and they did not inspire much confidence at all. Western slobs or Emirati slobs, the other points they had in common were little education and only a vague idea of what they were doing.
Actually, I can't for the life of me imagine why anybody would be wanting to work for HCT in AD. Each campus, men's and women's, possesses its own brand of poison, and only a masochist would want to work there. Avoid, AVOID!! |

That's an interesting comment. Would you be willing to elaborate (or have you already done so elsewhere)? Which campus?
Thanks. |
