|

Just for interests sake, i thought it'd be good to get an idea of how much you should get from:
1)Language schools
2)privates
per hour (please make it clear if this is per 45min/60min) around Poland.
So if you come from across Poland (or you know of wages across wages across Poland), can you please post them on here:
I'll start the ball rolling:
Warsaw:
1)Language schools:
I think it's fair to say that in Warsaw, you should be trying to get as close to 60zł per hour (60 min) net per hour as possible, although anything over 50zł net is acceptable.
2)Privates:
anywhere from 60 - 100zł (per 60 min) per hour
Krakow (this is my knowledge from 2006)
1)Langauge schools:
A good wage would be 50zł net + (per 60 min)
2)Privates:
I guess about 60zł per hour (per 60 min)
I'd be particularly interested to hear about prices from Wrocław, Rzeszow, Szczecin, Gdansk and Lublin
Thanks in advance for your contributions and time

I would assume that this is per teaching hour (45 min). I've recently noticed a lot of schools asking for prices for 60 minutes and not wanting to go above a zloty a minute gross. This is too low in Warsaw I believe. |

Good point - I was thinking per 60 min, but it'd probably be a good idea to make it clear when you post. I've edited the OP to show this. |

I charged 60 zl for 60 minutes as a native speaker. I'm in Czestochowa But I know of Polish-speaking teachers of English charging as little as 30 zl for 60 minutes. No wonder this country is so messed up.

OK,
well, in Wroclaw currently, i'd say in language schools it works out to around 50zl net per 60 min. if you're a newbie, 60/60 if you have experience. i currently have a couple contracts with a school that pays me more.
Privates, well, that entirely depends on the class size and the student's expectations, meaning am i grading writing assignments every week, taking hours to prepare, those kinds of things, but in my case, i won't take less than 80zl for 60 min. for a 1 to 1 because quite frankly, anything less is a waste of my time. but, with that said, i know many polish teachers that teach english to privates for 50-60zl per hour. for a 90 minute lesson which is the norm, i won't take less than 100zl. I have a private student now, twice a week for 90 min. and i charge over 100zl. |

So this thread has over 160 views (at time of writing) and only 7 responses. That's hardly fair, is it, people?
Come on, we've shown you ours, now show us yours |

Perhaps some people arent in Poland yet, and dont have much to share in terms of their own experience but want to read yours.
A basic hourly rate may also be something people dont want to share as it may compare badly as it doesnt reflect any other benefits - housing/utilities/flights/holiday pay etc |

Paid flights and holiday pay?? What country are you living in? I've never heard of this in Poland!
Of course, people are not going to share their hourly rate if they realize they are getting shafted!
There are still natives in Warsaw selling lessons for as low as 30 zł /60 min.. I saw an ad on a lamp post advertising this just the other day. |

I don't think people believe they are getting shafted rather they are students or are just supplementing their income. There are myriad posts on gumtree, nativespeaker.com.pl and other sites which advertise lessons for ridicuously low money. I see more and more every week and honestly don't know how these people live with themselves driving down prices everywhere. They are the worthless dregs of the EFL business. |

Sure enough, but I think most prospective students know what to expect from someone who 'advertises' on lampposts (isn't that what male dogs do as well?). Usually it's young, inexperienced, Polish philology students: let them take their share of the market, I say.
All you gotta do (as I'm sure most of us do) is offer a short first free-of-charge meeting for them to see the real good stuff! |

Both certainly exist in Poland, and are both stated in my recently signed contract. I havent contributed to this thread with the hourly rate I have signed for, as I dont feel it is totally representative of how good a deal the job is for this reason. I have all the above included in my contract (which I dont think is a generous one).
In another recent thread about ILS there is some slating of the salary...but if it includes the hol pay, flights, accom, utilities etc as my contract does, its a whole different ball game IMO. 60 an hour wouldnt suit me if I had to say goodbye to accom and utilities, flights, and the 6 or 7 weeks holiday pay my contract allows. |
