Is 38,000 net a month good? It will be for 22.5 hours a week. Anything over that will be overtime. Pay will be 2 times a month.
They pay for the flat and all the expenses. I would only be responsible for my phone usage. |

Depends on the city you're going to.
Overall, it's enough to live on, though you won't be high hogging it by any means. |

It really depends on your lifestyle.
If you're a go out twice a weekend guy/gal, then 38K won't go very far.
If you're more of a homebody who can cook his/her own meals--and doesn't have expensive tastes, you should be ok.
Either way, you probably won't have much over at the end of the month (unless you go the hermit/eat kasha route, which I don't recommend).
If you have bills back home, that would be another expense to consider.
You said all expenses paid, but how about flights? Are they paid?
In general, if you have a real interest in breaking into the Russian market, and you get a work visa with the deal, I'd be inclined to at least give it a try. |

They will pay $800 at the end of the contract for flight. They also pay holiday and vacation time. |

It's not a great deal. But if you can get some private students you should be all right. |

It's sort of tough to take privates w/ a 22.5 hour requirement at work... |

I used to teach 36 ac./hrs. a week and still had time for private students; so I guess it's doable, if the teacher needs/wants it. |

Moscow is an enormous city and the congestion, both on the roads and on the metro is hell!!I often spent more time commuting to and from lessons than actually teaching them and this has to be borne in mind very carefully when you plan taking on any private work extra to your schedule:firstly, where does the firm expect you to teach and how near is it to where you will be living? Then where will the extra private lessons be in relation to both?If the firm give you a split teaching schedule, with lessons early,at say 08.00-10.00 you will have to commute during the worst time of day-and then maybe have other lessons from 19.00 to 21.00,with a long gap in between which is a major problem unless you can fill it with something else-and it is winter so you have to bear that in mind!
I learned from experience, the hard way, even though I rarely started any lessons before 12.00 mid-day.Although I could lie in until 10.00 after arriving home at around 22.00 the previous night I was still often mentally and physically exhausted from the stress of living in Moscow so my sincere advice is to check very carefully what hours you are expected to work and where before you start planning ways to supplement that measly salary! My frank opinion is that unless you are a masochist it is not worth going there to earn that kind of money.Above all,ask those questions BEFORE YOU ACCEPT THE FIRMS OFFER!! |

Way too much ridiculous chasing around unless it's blocked. I teach 8 acad. on Fridays(all privates), but I do 4 hours in the morning 4 in the evening-no hassle. Now, if i had to chase my butt to 4 different spots for those 8 hours, I'd be dead. |

You're right. I certainly wouldn't recommend that kind of schedule unless one really needs it.
I have a car here and Vladivostok isn't Moscow-sized, so it was a bit easier. The extra income certainly helped at the time, though. |

I work 40 hours a week and do privates twice during the week and then on weekends. I make 75000 rubles/month and 800 rubles/hour for privates. I think it's doable. I teach at a school though, 8 hours/day 5 days a week, and it's walking distance from my flat. |

I didn't get the job. If I get another interview how much should I ask for? |

Are you in Moscow or the provinces??? Good schools pay more than 800/acad hour. If you are charging that privately you are really underselling yourself. I start at 1500rub/acad hr. and lessons are 2-3 acad a piece. I have 2 students who often like to double up on lessons(meaning they ask for 4 acad. hrs in a sitting) esp if they think they may miss a lesson the following week. On Fridays, for example, I teach 2x4acad hr lessons (privates). I still have a waiting list too but am booked for a long time out now. I carry no more than 12 hrs at work and 12-15 privately. My privates are minimum chasing and not at all inconvenient. The ones I travel to are 20-30 min away and another is the daughter of another pro runner who trains where I do and we sit there over lunch right after our workouts! I was in the habit of having to cap things at 20-22 hrs but the only PITA chasing I do is 2 days a week at my official job, and having students willing to meet me at the track makes it easy to take more. |
