| Here's something for anyone interested to think about regarding applying to HCT: I recently filled out and sent the on-line application for an English Faculty position and noted my MA in TESOL, native-speaker profile, North American citizenship as well as 3+ years of EFL experience at the tertiary level in the Gulf. I was flatly rejected within two days via an email response saying my application was "unsuccessful" in this instance because other candidates "more closely matched our requirements" Go figure...I suppose HCT can still be picky... |

i've found that to be an extremely loaded statement during my experience in the gulf. seems that a lot of organizations have some unwritten "requirements" for employment.

| Right... I guess you never know what they're REALLY looking for in a candidate. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I have impeccable references, including letters from my current supervisors here in the Gulf. I'm stumped that I didn't even get an interview. Oh, well...time to move on! |

| OP, that is not a permanent rejection, necessarily. I was rejected back in the early days of HCT and about two years later secured a position with HCT at DWC. When rejected I had two master's degrees in relevant fields, and eight years' f/t experience (two in Saudi, two in Malaysia and four in Japan--all at universities except the two years in Saudi). Two more years at the IPA in Saudi got me the HCT job. |

Thanks, S 'n' B. I guess there is hope for me yet as far as HCT is concerned; however, from all the recent talk about the decline of the institution as an employer, it seems they may have done me a favor. There are plenty of programs out there with much better recent track records... |

They're the superlative North Americans, the most Northern, geographically speaking. 
I've often wondered why Canadians abroad always feel the need to post the maple leaf everywhere though, it's quite disconcerting, considering their country is famous for, erm...? |

Hmm, how about those 'Mercans in Alaska - you know, the ones that can see Russia from their houses. Aren't they "more northern," you betcha?
Just did a little checking:
"Situated 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle, Barrow, Alaska is the northernmost incorporated city in North America and the largest Inupiat Eskimo community in the world. It is the seat of government for the North Slope Borough, and serves as regional center for the sparsely populated 89,000-square-mile borough - the largest municipality on earth.
