Veracruz got a 5.7 quake this morning...not very large (no reports of damage in Veracruz yet) and we felt it in DF.

When it comes to danger in Mexico, earthquakes (and getting hit by a car) have me more worried than anything else. I'd always wanted to experience an earthquake before coming here and in 2003 I got my wish with a 6.9. Never want to be through one again.

DF runs city-wide earthquake drills on Sept. 19th of every year as a reminder of the devastation of the 1985 quake that hit this city hard.

What time of the morning was it felt in Mexico City? While I was lazing about in bed, I felt a slight shaking of my bed, but just put it down to the same shaking that occurs when a big truck comes down my narrow street.

Another one this morning, 6.5 in Veracruz. This one was a lot stronger and had me running out of my building with daughter in tow.

It felt a lot weaker here even though it was not really any further away. But I was in my car behind a large slow moving vehicle, so that probably made a big difference.

You can report what you felt here http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/events/us/c0002kru/us/form.en.disabled.html and get in on the action.

You looked pretty worried when you were crossing the road in front of my car the other week in Patriotismo! Very Happy

It was about 8:10 or 8:15, I was in a class and we felt and saw the table move. Buildings all around were evacuated. I had just left Mexico a few months before the 1985 earthquake, but got to experience it second hand as I had many family members that were effected. One of my brother in laws worked in the old Hospital Juarez, which was totally destroyed. He worked in the basement, and if he hadnt been late to work that day, he would have been another casuality, everyone in his department died, as well as many others. He knew around 30 people who died that day. By the time we came back to Mexico 6 months later things were a little more under control, but you could still see signs of disaster everywhere. Ill admit that I freak out when there is a tremor and run out of wherever I am like hell.

It was looooooong, and that's coming from a Californian. It set off our neighborhood earthquake alarm. What are those for, anyway?

That was you! I spent the whole day wondering who it was...glare from the windshield meant I could only see an outline of a person waving.

I must the only person in Mexico City who didn't feel a thing. Shortly after the seismic event struck, I was dozing lightly in bed when I was awakened by my cell phone buzzing with a text message asking if I was OK. Glad to hear that everyone's fine.

Apparently the epicenter was in a lightly populated area, thank G-d, and there have been no reports of major damage, and no injuries. But, while looking for news on the earthquake I saw that there is a 7.1 tsunami warning in Japan.
