Does anyone know if Ministry of Higher Education employees will be included in the recently announced salary increases? More specifically non-Emirati instructors at Zayed, HCT or UAEU?

Melanie Swan hasn't reported on it. And, she keeps her ear pretty close to the ground on educational issues over there!

It's just more muddying up the waters!

These pay rises are for Emiratis only -don't hold your breath! Your merit pay has gone, your annual increment has gone, next it will be the gratuity Sad

University of Sharjah ELC just got a merit raise - ranging from 4% - 7% - a lot better than the nothing other places seem to be giving. Shocked

Interesting...If the Uni of Sharjah is giving out an increase, the others might follow...something like this happened a few years ago...can't remember the details, but the government gave out huge payrises and about 10-15% was added to the HCT salaries...

UoS is a private university. So, I don't think a raise there would faze the government.

The government makes billions from oil. Its citizens are well-pampered.

A pay raise would be hardly noticed.

My veiled sentiments...

You're using logic again... this doesn't affect the thinking in the Gulf. Cool

But, perhaps you've never worked there? Don't recall if you have or not.

Most likely folks will return from end-of-year break to an email announcing modest pay increase....

I for one am not expecting a pay rise and none of my colleagues are either. Anyway, you never know with HCT. They have had some bad press due to not giving the 4%. The point is that the gratuity is now reducing in value. At least before we could say it increased by 4% every year.

and up until last year we could also get a merit based "bonus."

Those were the arguments given to stay with HCT, even though newer staff (with the same qualifications and credentials) were hired making MORE than older staff. HR would say, 'hey just stay here and you will get your "merit pay" and the 4% annual pay raise and then catch up with the new hires."

When the UAE turned 25, HCT employees (all federal employees) received double salary for the month. It would be nice to be pleasantly surprised. Smile
