It's that time of year again, and normally I'd go here http://www.inm.gob.mx/index.php and fill out and print off the form, and head to INM with documents in hand...
However, it's my understanding that I can't use 'the short cut' because I have new information (a change of address).
Fine, I'll head down to INM with part of the on-line paper work done.

Or not?
This message pops up...

Quote:

Could I impose upon someone, whose Spanish is better than mine, to confirm no one can use this on-line tool until after the election? And therefore there is nothing I can do to get the ball rolling before my visit to INM?

Thanks,
DL

Beats me. I can't imagine that this intrinsic online process would just be suspended as a matter of procedure. Can you access the online form? If you can, I would just fill it out, print it, and head down to immigration. If you can't, I would still go down to immigration to find out what's up.

What the crucial last sentence says is, access to the sections of this internet portal that disseminate information about programs, actions, projects and achievements is suspended.

Interpreted strictly, I dont see that this means that the on-line tool should be blocked, but I can imagine it being possible that someone in the bureaucracy responsible for the site could interpret it that way and block it.

I'll be going to INM in Mexico City on Monday to renew my NO INMIGRANTE visa for the fourth time. I have already filled out and printed the application form and don't expect any problems on Monday, but I'll be sure to let everyone know how it went when I get back.

Thank you to those who've replied.

Isla I look forward to hearing from you after your visit to INM Monday.
My schedule is such that I won't be able to make it down to the office here until the 8th.

Good luck with the renewal, from personal experience in SLP it matters not a fig anyway what the requirements are on the INM website as there's always something missing. Every year I go down to immigration with the list as per the site and every year they tell me it's wrong and the requirements seem to change annually.

Anything to do with immigration in SLP always involves two visits, the first to verify what they actually need and the second to submit it which is a pain as it's always packed in there.

My trip to INM yesterday went smoothly. I was concerned that my photos wouldn't pass muster because a small lock of my hair hung down slightly onto my forehead. But no problem at all. My photos were accepted along with the other pieces of paper I brought with me: my original FM No Inmigrante, a copy of my passport photo page, copies of my most recent recibo and bank receipt for payment of March taxes, a brief letter in Spanish stating my employment situation hadn't changed since last year, the application downloaded from the INM website, and a copy of the bank receipt for payment of the INM fee. I was also given the Formato Bsico to fill out. Including time spent going to the bank to pay the $2356 fee for a prrroga of my FM No Inmigrante lucrativa, I was in and out in under an hour. I was told my new visa will be ready in 7 to 20 das hbiles. Let's hope that's the case.

I've read on one of the expat sites that fees hadn't increased since 2007, but this year they have. Was this true Isla?

Cant speak for Isla and her visa, but I renewed my FM-2 a month ago and, yes, the fee had increased this year.

It did go up this year. Last year it was around $2200 for my type of visa. I cant remember back as far as 2007. Confused

This isn't renewal, but I just got a new visa because my FM3 was stolen a few weeks ago. I did all the online things as normal without any problem.

Maybe it's just a bad link.

A question maybe someone knows the answer to: that immigration reform law they've been working on forever was supposed to go into effect early this year. Rumors are saying that under the new law, you will not be able to enter or leave the country when your visa is in the renewal process. The process is also supposed to take longer. Are any of these rumors true?

The new law has not gone into effect yet. There's a good chance it won't be implemented till after the July elections. Until the new regulations have been actually written, no one knows for sure how they will affect us.

Dragonlady,

I checked the INM site and that message popped up, but I clicked accept and it went away and I was able to proceed to information about the renewal

I popped by my not so local INM today and it went as smoothly as it ever has. I filled out the online form a couple of days ago, and it's even easier now as you can put the number on your card in and all your information fills in automatically.

I went to the INM office in Mexico City this morning to pick up the 4th prrroga of my No Inmigrante visa. It was actually ready last Friday, a little less than 3 weeks after I turned in all the paperwork. At first I was told that I should come back in an hour, ms o menos, and I thought, uh-oh, something's wrong. I waited a minute or so and then asked another person, who seemed to be more on the ball, if there was a problem, and he said there wasn't and that I should wait right there. My file came up in a little under a half hour, and after signing my name a few times and taking two thumbprints, I was given my new flimsy plastic card, hot off the presses. Then off I went for a celebratory late breakfast at Sanborn's.
