Hiya all, I'm another newbie and have been quietly following your posts for a little while now. I'm moving out to Ankara in late August after accepting a job there. My situation is slightly different as i'm a primary school teacher not an ESL'er. I haven't been to Turkey ever (Oh god! How scary!?!?!) but i'm going over to visit the school in about 4 weeks
I might need your help if i get wobbly before i arrive in Turkey from the UK and also i might have some 'stupid' questions to ask.
I've enjoyed 'listening' to your conversations and feel i kinda know ppl in Turkey already.
Catch you guys soon |

Welcome
Can I ask the school?
Anyway, I'm in Ankara and we can meet for a coffee when you are here if you like. Dont worry. You will easily adapt! |

Thanks for the welcome everyone!
->vre i'm going to be teaching at the British Embassy Study Group. It is really a school but due to legal reasons they have to call themselves a study group. I think it's because they follow the English National Curriculum. I'll be starting work there late Aug early Sept but i'm off to visit at the end of May. I'll get to meet my new children, meet the staff, tour round the school and get to see some of Ankara too. I'm also tagging along on a school trip to Cappadocia so i'll get to see some of the fantastic scenery aswell! |

I lived down the hill from the school. It's located near the British Embassy in Cankaya. They have an amazing turtle population and there is the sound of shells a'clacking come spring ) It's truly amazing. I lived in Ankara for 7 years. I really liked it. |

gelin,
I was told that the Ambassadors wife was so taken with the turtles in the school grounds that she got the groundskeeper to move them onto the Embassy lawn so she could see them all the time! They all tried to escape as soon as they were there. When i go over in May a govenor of the school and i am going to liberate them!! |

could be tortoises. Is the plural for tortoise tortoises? We get a lot of them in Ankara, casually walking down the road and nearly getting their lovely shells crushed by all the crazy turkish drivers. Some look ancient. I quite like them. I think terrapins are much smaller dimi? |

One tortoy, two tortoise ?
For some reason Americans do not use the word tortoise. They call them turtles. Similarly they are blissfully unaware of what a "budgerigar" or "budgie" is.
Benighted colonial 'eathens ! |
