Our entire staff room agreed that Libya won by a country mile. A Friday night was like the scene in 'The Great Eascape' on July the 4th, when the illicit hooch was ready. |

I didn't want to say it, but that's pretty accurate. |

by cool do you mean developed cities with materialistic, exclusive, pretentious, arrogant, hipsters who have their heads stuck up their selfie a$$e$? If so, count me out. |

I thought the "hipster" was extinct maybe I should get out and travel a bit more to exotic locales like Manchester and Leeds.
I have not seen any on my infrequent daytrips to the more downmarket areas of Greenock, Paisley and Glasgow.

Either you're high up in the British Council ranks or you don't like England very much. Care to expand? |

Is that addressed to me ? I decline to answer on the grounds that I might incriminate myself. |

Oman is the worst country I've worked in so far, worse than Saudi Arabia. I worked at Modern College of Business and Science - MCBS. They say it's one of the best, which means that education in Oman is really disastrous, wherever you may teach. The place is run by Omanis who have no idea about how to manage whatsoever. The teacher has no right there. He doesn't even know when holiday time is. The curriculum is always changing, the coordinators are incompetent, and generally, everyone is afraid to speak. I strongly advise you to think twice before you apply there. |

I never understood why so many people like London. If you take the tube or the train, you'll realise going in that massive parts of it are complete dumps. And any place that isn't a dump is expensive as all hell.
Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Liverpool are far nicer cities, IMO. |

Large parts of London are now like something from the Third World. |

The oft-repeated paraphrase of "No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." by Samuel Johnson (in 1777) has a lot to answer for. It's just plain wrong, you can be tired of London and still feel a zest for life. Many - millions, in fact - who've once lived in/near the city, have moved out because they are not 'tired of life' and wish to pursue other lifestyles that don't include living in a very unique, extremely expensive, over-populated, congested and polluted capital. |

What a laugh. Some parts of Manchester are no go and scary as hell. Bristol has one posh bit, Clifton, which rivals London in price, but that's it. Leeds and Liverpool are small provincial cities.
I love London with its huge parks, Chinatown, cheap transport (buy an oyster card), decent pubs, East End curry houses (not Brick Lane, please). any food you want will be there and, as we are all so cultured on here, the museums.
You can't slag off London (9 million people) and say Manchester (2.5 million) is wonderful when you have Moss Side. And have you been to the centre on a Saturday night? |
