I believe that overly dramatic flourish was a hasty "withdrawal". Or was it a "forfeit"? |

Ah, thou art there still. Took you a while to think that one up.
In view of your ungentlemanly conduct thus far, and the foolish frivolous persona of many of your foregoing posts, I am not inclined to rest secure as to your veracity.
The thing I first noted about some of your previous posts that I browsed, was the exertions you took to display a secure and languidly humourous conceitedness. I saw through it right away. But please do reflect, since you wish to bandy measurements, that should I choose to commit my funds to further study, it will be in the best college in England, not the second best.
And by the way, you never did tell me your grades, just that you had so far wheedled yourself into the affections of your government and college to bring them to throw away an awful lot of money on a rash busybody. |

That's the pot calling the kettle black if one looks at your early posts on this thread.
For your information, very few "grades" were given in my program. As you might not know, doctoral courses are primarily seminars and independent research -- for which "grades" of Satisfactory and Unsatisfactory are often given. I did receive all A grades in lecture and classroom courses I undertook as both an M.A. and a Ph.D. student. And I certainly never received an Unsatisfactory. I doubt that I would have received a full grant for travel and research abroad had my "grades" been as low as you evidently wish them to have been.
Get your Ph.D. from the #2-ranked department (that's "faculty" to you) in your field, my boy, and not simply the #2-ranked university. In postgraduate studies, it's the faculty and not the university that is paramount. Or did you not know that? If your university is the "best" in the world but your degree is from its #25-ranked faculty of horticulture, nobody in horticulture will take much note. Well, maybe in the languid Middle East they will. |

Dear Shadowfax
Your command of vocabularly is truly impressive. Now if only you could learn how to put it together! |

Sorry to disappoint your avuncular concern for the rating of the faculty in which I studied, but it was also in the top three in the subject concerned.
Albeit I concede that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, you still haven't quoted your bachelor's and master's grades.
Not that I am really interested. The point is, you came steaming in to the rescue of someone, as you say that I boasted of my qualifications to put them down. That was done to a person who gratuitously insulted me. Now what was your motivation? Was it that you secretly longed to blow your own trumpet out of sheer vanity? It would require an apology to satisfy me as to your possession of a shred of decency and civility. Why am I so convinced that this is beyond your scope, though you could play at linguistics with the devil and all his drones? |

What exactly is an English "grade" for postgraduate studies anyway? If I told you my "grade" was A, you would still not be satisfied. When -- and if -- you eventually earn that Ph.D., we can talk as equals.
Stephen, are all British M.A.'s in the Middle East like Shadowfax?? Are they not able to take even a tiny dose of their own medicine and comeuppance like real men?? |

Calling upon Mr Stephen to help you worst me. A surprise from one who proclaims an expert knowledge of manhood.
You don't have distinctions for MA in the states, then? And your bachelor's wasn't a first, I take it. Have you never heard of the term summa ... laude at PhD? Your knowledge of this is inexplicably scant. (I omit the Latin word for with, as it is censored automatically).
Still, you ignored what I put to you about my reasons for rebutting your vainglorious intrusion. I remain satisfied you are no more than a bounder. |

No, we don't have "distinctions" for graduate degrees or "firsts" for undergraduate degrees. That's so Old Europe. If you have collected such valuable and coveted "awards", please ask yourself why you're now toiling in the desert.
You yourself joined this thread on 6 June, a full four weeks following its start. You then proceeded to make a pompous and conceited fool of yourself. And you wonder why I then took my well-placed -- and evidently very successful -- jab? |

Who posted rules as to when and at what point one can contribute to a discussion? You begin to sound jejune.
Sorry to hear the States has abandoned the true tests of intellectual merit.
You seem somewhat wounded yourself, to have so persistently defended your ignominy.
The insuperable pride of an old fool, marooned in the desert? |

| It was not so much the time as the manner of your engagement that led on to this unseemly controverse. I understand that having got in, you felt obliged to stay in. But like VS, with her feints and pretended olive branches, her Parthian darts and other ignoble stratagems, you have been unable to withdraw with dignity, but prefer to await an opportunity to deliver a perfidious dagger in the rear and slink off to your unconscionable repose. But then, I guess you're not even in Saudi, and it is yet daylight where you now loiter maliciously. |

Lay on then, Cowell, my back is turned at last,
My wife me waits, your pride is safe and fast. |
